MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Dartmouth women's tennis team, which is tied with Harvard for 46th in the nation, downed Drake by a score of 5-2 at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Big Green remains undefeated with a record of 9-0, while the Bulldogs fell to 7-3.
Dartmouth won two of the doubles matches to enter singles with a 1-0 lead. At No. 1, sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis had a 6-2 victory over Mariel Ante and Tess Herder and, at No. 3, senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder defeated Jordan Eggleston and Adrienne Jensen, 6-2.
Ng blanked Ante at No. 1 singles, handing the Bulldog a 6-0, 6-0 loss. Junior Jacqueline Crawford added a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nell Boyd at No. 4.
Both Mathis and Okuda had to fight to win their matches at the No. 3 and 5 positions, respectively. Mathis had an easy 6-1 win over Maddie Johnson before having to battle to a 7-5 victory in the second set, while Okuda defeated Eggelston, 6-4, in the first and had a 7-5 win in the second.
The Green will face No. 70 Minnesota tomorrow at 11 a.m.
