HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's tennis continued its season this past weekend, facing the Penn Quakers and Princeton Tigers on the road. The Big Green played to a 1-1 record, snapping a three-match losing skid against the Quakers before falling to Princeton.
The Big Green are now 13-5 overall and 2-1 in Ivy League play.
In Saturday's match in Philadelphia, the Big Green cruised through doubles play, taking both the first and second doubles matches to clinch the point.
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins earned the 6-3 second doubles win before
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore won their first doubles match, 6-3.
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong were paired at third doubles and were leading 5-4 when Dartmouth clinched the doubles point.
The Big Green won three singles matches to secure the victory over the Quakers.
Lauren Han's fourth singles match was the first to conclude as she fell to Penn's Urata, 6-0, 6-4.
Moore improved her daily record to 2-0, winning her match at second singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Capuano did the same, remaining undefeated on the day with a win at first singles. She won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, 8-6, before winning the second set, 6-4.
Orlins clinched the match for the Big Green after winning her third singles match in three sets. She dropped the first set, 6-4, before bouncing back to win 6-1 and 6-4.
Grosjean's fifth singles match and Lombardi's sixth singles match both went unfinished after Dartmouth clinched the win. Grosjean dropped the first set 6-3, but won the second set 6-3 and was leading in the third set, 5-3, when the match was called.
Lombardi won her first set 7-5 and was leading the second set 6-5.
The Big Green were right back in action Sunday, taking on the Princeton Tigers. Lombardi and Wong earned the victory at third singles, 6-2, before Orlins clinched another point for the Big Green. Alongside Grosjean, the pair played to a 6-3 win at second singles to secure the doubles point.
Capuano and Moore were down 4-3 at first doubles when the match was called.
In singles play, Han's fourth singles match concluded first, as she fell 6-1, 6-4.
Caroline Lemcke, playing in her first match of the weekend, fell at sixth singles, 6-2. 6-3.
Orlins, who entered singles play against the Tigers at 3-0 on the weekend, fell to Princeton's Elbaz, 6-4, 6-3 at third singles.
Moore's match at second singles finished next, as the Tigers clinched the victory after Moore fell 6-1, 6-3.
With the match won by Princeton, Capuano's first singles match and Grosjean's fifth singles match went unfinished. Capuano dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, 7-4 and was down in the second set, 3-1. Grosjean had fallen 7-5 in her first set but held a 4-0 lead in the second.
The Big Green will return to action and Ivy League play this weekend, first facing the Yale Bulldogs on Friday, April 10 in Hanover. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
