SEASIDE, CALIF. — The Dartmouth women's golf team kicked off the spring schedule at the CSUMB Women's Otter Invitational at the Blackhorse Golf Course. The Big Green sit tied for sixth after the first round of competition and shot a 323 (+35) on the par-72, 5810-yard course.
CSU-Monterey Bay is atop the leaderboard and shot a 301 (+13), two strokes ahead of Nova Southern (303). Following the hosts is Dallas Baptist and the Academy of Art in third place (309) and Incarnate Word (322).
Dartmouth and Incarnate Word are the only two Division I institutions in the 12 team field. The Big Green is tied with Western Washington and is one-stroke ahead of Point Loma Nazarene. Shorter, Cal State East Bay, Montana State Billings and Holy Names are the remaining squads in the event.
Senior Jane Lee paced the Big Green with a three-over 75 and is tied for sixth place with Dallas Baptist's Erin Barrington. Lee is the lone Big Green member in the top 20. Freshman Jessica Kittelberger is tied in 16th with a six-over 78 but played as an independent golfer and her card is not reflected in Dartmouth's team score.
CSU-Monterey Bay's Arielle Swan-Smith was the only player in the 74-golfer field to score a one-under 71. Nova Southern's Liliana Cammisa and Academy of Art's Sterling Hawkins finished even-par 72.
Freshman Isabelle Kane carded an eight-over 80 and is tied for 21st while sophomore Tara Simmons and freshman Radi Sauro are both tied for 47th with a 12-over 84. Sophomore Jamie Susanin closed the Big Green scorecard in 50th with a 14-over 86.
Dartmouth will play Dallas Baptist and Incarnate Word in the final round while CSU-Monterey Bay will meet Nova Southern and Academy of Art.
