DALLAS, Texas – On its last day in Texas, No. 60 Dartmouth men's tennis team defeated No. 36 SMU, 4-1, at the SMU Tennis Complex on Tuesday.
The Big Green improved to 9-6, while the Mustangs lost their third straight match and fell to 15-5.
Victories at the No. 1 and 3 positions clinched the doubles point for Dartmouth. At No. 1, junior Dovydas Sakinis and senior Chris Kipouras, who are now ranked 21st in the country, had a 7-5 win over Arturs Kazijevs and Markus Kerner. Senior Sam Todd and sophomore Diego Pedraza were down, 4-1, before coming back to defeat Tony Russell and Samm Butler at No. 3 by the same score.
The Mustangs tied things up with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 4 singles, but the Big Green were victorious in the next three matches. At the No. 6 position, junior Brendan Tannenbaum had a 6-4, 6-3 win over Russell, while, at No. 1, 86th-ranked Sakinis had a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 defeat of Kerner. It was freshman Ciro Riccardi that won the final point, taking down Butler, 7-5, 6-4.
Dartmouth will head to Louisiana to face No. 65 Tulane at 11 a.m. (ET) on Friday, March 27.
