The Dartmouth softball team will head to Charleston, South Carolina to participate in the Holy City Showdown hosted by the College of Charleston. Coming off a tough Texas Invitational that saw the Big Green go 1-3 overall, the team will meet Liberty and host Cougars on Friday followed by Loyola Chicago and South Carolina State on Saturday and then a single game against Jacksonville on Sunday. The Big Green will get a 10-day break after this event before embarking on a two-week Mid-Atlantic trip.
Madeline Texas Adventure - Sophomore Maddie Damore had one of the better overall performances for the Big Green down in Austin. The sophomore first baseman went 6-for-12 (.500) collecting three hits in as many at-bats against the Longhorns in the weekend finale. Her three included a home run and a double. She currently leads the team with a .370 batting average with three runs batted in.
In The Woods – Sophomore Alyssa Jorgensen has recorded a hit in six-of-the-nine games she has played in this season. The Big Green second baseman is hitting .304 on the year and is second on the squad.
Queen of the Long Ball – Junior Katie McEachern hit her second and third home runs of the season against Lamar on Saturday. McEachern now has 21 homers in her career.
Holy City Showdown Scouting Reports –
College of Charleston – Sitting a game over .500 on the season at 9-8, the host College of Charleston is led by Taylor Dupree hitting .439. Rebecca Mueller is third hitting .365 with two home runs and 17 runs batted in. Sara Garcia leads the team with three long balls and is tied for second with 14 RBIs. Hope Klicker is 4-7 inside the circle with a 3.15 ERA.
Jacksonville - A tough game for the Big Green will be against Jacksonville, a team that has already played 21 games entering the showdown. Emily Sanchez leads the Dolphins with a .370 batting average. She has five home runs and 16 runs batted in. Victoria Brown is hitting .345 with a team-high six home runs and 18 RBIs. Brown is also a star inside the circle with a 7-7 record and a 2.75 ERA in 91.2 innings.
Liberty – The Flames enter the weekend 4-9 overall after competing in three other tournaments earlier this season. Liberty is on a four-game losing streak, dropping all four games at the Aquafina Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. The last victory for them came against UMass Lowell, a 2-0 win at the Dot Richardson Invitational in Claremont, Florida. Tori Zavodny is hitting .351 in 13 games for the Flames with one home run and five runs batted in. Mickey Loveridge is third on the team in hitting, but leads the squad in runs batted in with 10. Chandler Ball is 3-4 inside the circle with a 5.15 ERA in 50.1 innings.
Loyola-Chicago – The Ramblers are 6-8 on the season and will meet Charleston Southern before the Holy City Showdown. Brooke Wyderski has earned a pair of weekly awards after her performance over the weekend, being named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, as well as Madness Missouri Valley Player of the Week. Wyderski hit 7-for-16 over five games to compile a .438 average, including two home runs to tally a .813 slugging percentage while adding two runs and seven RBI.
South Carolina State – The Lady Bulldogs are 4-2 entering this weekend after playing only two Division I games, both losses to Alabama A&M. Mikala Johnson leads the team with a .474 batting average. Jada Richardson and Khala Caster are tied for first in runs batted in (12) and home runs (2). Keirra Cromer is 2-0 with a 1.87 ERA.
