NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Dartmouth softball team extended its winning streak to 10 games and completed a four-game series sweep over Yale on Sunday afternoon. The Big Green shutout the Bulldogs both games in the series finale doubleheader, 8-0 (five innings) and 7-0.
Senior
Kristen Rumley (11-10) and junior
Morgan McCalmon (7-1) allowed seven combined hits over 14 innings. Rumley struck out five batters while McCalmon set a season-best with 10.
McCalmon went 3-for-7 on the day and belted a three-run homer in the first game. Junior
Katie McEachern added a pair of RBIs in the opener along with one in the nightcap. The shortstop went 3-for-7 in the doubleheader and drew a walk in the first contest.
Dartmouth took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on four hits. Sophomore
Karen Chaw led off the innings with a foul out to left field. Dartmouth put the next two batters on base with a single by Rumley and a double by junior
Kelsey Miller. Yale starter Francesca Casalino issued walks to freshman
Brittany Mann and sophomore
Alyssa Jorgensen to load the bases and scored Rumley on the first base on balls. McEachern then plated Miller and Mann with a single to right center. Lara finished the inning with the Big Green's fourth hit out of the infield and scored Jorgensen.
Rumley continued to breeze through after allowing two hits in the first. Yale had a chance to take the early lead with back-to-back singles to begin the inning. Rumley got out of the jam with a fielder's choice and a strikeout.
In the Big Green fourth, McEachern walked and advanced to third on a single by Lara before touching the plate to end the frame.
In the fifth, McCalmon hit her fourth home run of the season on a drive to right field to give the visitors an eight-run lead.
Dartmouth continued to unload on the Bulldogs in the nightcap and took a 1-0 lead in the second on a bases loaded single by Lara.
In the third, McCalmon scored a pair of runs on a double to take a 3-0 lead. Three more hits in the fourth brought home two additional runs as the Big Green led 5-0. Damore and Miller picked up RBIs with singles to center field.
After allowing a single with two outs in the second, McCalmon would retire the next 11 straight batters with five groundouts and four strikeouts.
In the seventh, McCalmon singled to center field and then scored on an RBI double to left center by freshman pinch hitter
Claire Bird. McEachern then singled to right center and plated Jorgensen (who re-entered to run for Bird).
Rachel Paris had two hits for the Bulldogs in the second game. Sydney Glover went 2-for-5 in the leadoff spot for Yale (7-16, 2-8 Ivy).
Casalino dropped to 5-6 on the year after she allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of the first game. Lindsay Efflandt tossed a complete game and surrendered seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits.
Dartmouth (18-13, 11-1 Ivy) will host Brown next weekend with a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
