JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Dartmouth women's track & field team will send two individuals to the NCAA Outdoor Championship June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
Both juniors Dana Giordano and Kaitlin Whitehorn punched their tickets to nationals on Saturday night at the NCAA East Regional at North Florida's Hodges Stadium
For the second straight year, Giordano will be making the trip after qualifying in the 5000m. The New Jersey, native ran a 16:01.57 to finish seventh overall in the national semifinal, claiming fifth in her heat and earning an automatic berth in the final two weeks from Saturday at Tracktown USA.
Fellow junior Reid Watson was 28th in the same event with a 16:42.68 to her credit. Unfortunately, that finish did not earn Watson a trip to Oregon.
However, Giordano will not be making the cross-country trip alone as Whitehorn will be traveling west for the national final in the high jump after earning a qualifying spot Saturday night. The junior cleared 5-10.5/1.79m to claim seventh in the event and earn one of 12 spots from the East Regional to secure a berth in Eugene.
For Giordano, this marks her sixth straight trip to a national championship meet after qualifying in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track in all six seasons of competition in the last two seasons. Whitehorn, on the other hand, will be heading to nationals for the first time in her three-year career as several near misses in the recent past.
Other members of the Dartmouth women's team also competed Saturday at the New Balance Twilight #2 meet outside of Boston.
