HANOVER, N.H. – For the Dartmouth men's track & field team, success in the City of Brotherly Love has been a goal all season.
First, it was the success of numerous individuals several weeks back at the Penn Relays. But that focus from an individual level of success on such a grand stage has now morphed into a team ideology that must come together in the same venue.
The 2015 Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Heptagonal Championship is set for this Saturday and Sunday at Penn's historic Franklin Field.
Saturday will feature a new-look format to the schedule of events as a majority of the women's competition will take place with men's trials to follow. Sunday's schedule alternates frequently between the two genders and will end in the late afternoon with relay finals.
The Big Green will look to improve on its fifth-place finish from a year ago at Yale's Cuyler Field & Dwyer Track when it posted 66 and 2/3 points.
Strong showings from returners Ed Wagner (2nd/400mH), Curtis King (3rd/5000m) and Alex Frye (4th/100mH) should bode well in terms of experience from a season ago.
Recently, senior Brett Buskey has been a force, winning the 100m and 200m at both UMass Lowell and UMass meets in the last several weeks. He also was part of the Big Green's first-place 4x100m relay team at each meet, demonstrating both depth and versatility that could come in handy at the Ancient Eight's championship when points are at a premium.
First-year coaches Tim Wunderlich '09 and Jeff Forino have also done great work with both the jumpers and throwers, respectively, this season, which also gives Dartmouth more opportunities for scoring.
The Marjorie and Herbert Chase '30 Director of Track and Field Barry Harwick '77 has been working on maintaining the distance group's high-level of success that has been a staple of the program for some time now.
Weather forecasts are for sunny days and high temperatures this weekend, while the Big Green are heading down I-95 hoping for strong showings and high scores at Franklin Field.
