ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Freshman
Julia Calbi came to Dartmouth highly touted, having been ranked 30th nationally among high school graduates. She gave a glimpse of what she could do at the collegiate level in the Big Green's first tournament this fall, finishing the first two rounds of the Chesapeake Bay Invitational atop the leaderboard after shooting a pair of two-over 74s on Saturday. Dartmouth will enter the third and final round on Sunday at the par-72 Naval Academy Golf Course tied for second with Towson at 45-over par, nine strokes behind Penn, in the field of 11 schools and 63 golfers.
At the conclusion of the first 18 holes of the day, Calbi had company at the top as Ellen Nighbor of Sacred Heart and Kyra Horlock of Longwood both fired a 74 as well. Calbi was the only one of the three to repeat her performance, however, to claim a one-stroke lead over Penn's Rachel Dai, who posted the low round of the day by shooting even par in the second round.
The next three scorers for Dartmouth were also freshmen in their first collegiate tournament, beginning with
Hana Bradshaw and
Angela Zhang in a tie for 20th at 13-over par with a 157. Bradshaw shot a 78 (+6) in the opening round followed by a 79 (+7), while Zhang did just the opposite. Meanwhile,
Catharine Roddy tied for 28th, two strokes behind Bradshaw and Zhang with a 78-81—159 (+15).
Rounding out the Big Green golfers today was senior
Lily Morrison in a tie for 38th at 21-over par.
The tournament will conclude Sunday with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
