THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth women's soccer team will host its second game in a row on Thursday, welcoming non-conference foe UMass Lowell to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
LAST TIME OUT
After a relatively quiet first half, with just one goal occurring in the 19th minute, the Big Green went on to score five goals within 30 minutes in the second to defeat Sacred Heart, 6-0, at Burnham Field on Sunday afternoon. This is Dartmouth's second 6-0 victory of the season and its fourth shutout so far in the seven-game season. For the fourth game in a row, Lucielle Kozlov netted two goals, opening scoring early in the first half and then tacking on one more soon after commencing the second 45-minute period. Also finding the back of the net twice was Melanie Vangel, while Lindsay Knutson and Gia Parker each tallied their first markers of the season.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Besides an exhibition win over Fairfield to start the season, UMass Lowell dropped five straight before having a 1-0 win over Wagner on Sept. 13 and a 2-0 shut out against Bryant four days later. Most recently, the River Hawks fell to Central Connecticut, 4-0. Rachel Morrier leads the team with three goals, while Shannon Groffie is right behind with two. Five different River Hawks have each found the back of the net once and an additional three players have notched an assist.
LAST TIME AGAINST UMASS LOWELL
On Nov. 4, 2014, Meredith Gurnee headed a free kick in overtime to give the Green a 2-1 overtime win over the River Hawks. Kate Castillo scored the first goal of the game in the 55th minute on a cross by Kozlov, but UMass Lowell tied the game in the 87th minute off a rebound goal by Haley Benson after keeper Tatiana Saunders stopped Emily Bracken's original shot. In overtime, Kendall Kraus had a chance to the end the game in the opening seconds, but her shot went high of the net. The Big Green kept the ball in the zone and were awarded a free kick by Jill Dayneka from 35 yards away that led to the game-winner by Gurnee 2:17 into extra time.
RAINEY AND COMPANY
In his first season with the Big Green in 2014, head coach Ron Rainey compiled a record of 8-5-4 and a 3-1-3 mark in Ivy League play. Joining Rainey on the bench are Grace Barnard, who is in her second season as an assistant coach, and Cord Farmer, who joined Dartmouth after spending last season at Nevada.
CAPTAINS
The Green are led by Corey Delaney, Jackie Friedman and Kozlov, who are all entering their final season on the field. So far this season, Kozlov leads the trio with 18 points from nine goals.
