HANOVER, N.H. — For the fifth time this season, the Ivy League has selected Dartmouth freshman Evan Boudreaux as its Rookie of the Week. The most ever by a single Big Green player is six, accomplished by Leon Pattman in 2003-04, while the conference record is eight held by Penn's Michael Jordan in 1996-97 and Cornell's Adam Gore in 2005-06.
Boudreaux, a 6-8 forward from Lake Forest, Illinois, averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in games at Fairfield and Harvard during the past week. First, he tallied 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds (tying for team-high honors) in a 97-85 defeat against the Stags last Tuesday. Against the Crimson on Saturday's Ivy League opener, Boudreaux poured in 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, but Harvard was able to stave off Dartmouth, 77-70. He tied the score once, gave the Green the lead twice and closed the gap to one on three occasions with baskets or foul shots. He also popped a three-pointer in the final minute of action to make it a one-possession game at 73-70. For the week, the freshman shot 52.0 percent from the floor, 50 percent behind the three-point arc and 91.7 percent at the foul line.
This season, Boudreaux is seventh in the Ivy League in scoring (14.8 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and sixth in free throw percentage (.779) while playing the 10th-most minutes (29.8).
Dartmouth has a total of six weekly rookie awards this season with freshman Guilien Smith taking home the prize once. The school record in one season in 10, set in 2011-12, and the league record is 13 held by Cornell in 2006-07.
Earning a spot on the league honor roll this week was sophomore Miles Wright, who averaged 17.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in the two games while draining 7-of-14 three-point attempts, including 5-of-8 at Harvard as he led the Big Green with 23 points along with three blocks and four steals.
The Big Green (4-9) return to the hardwood on Tuesday evening when they host Canisius (7-9) in Leede Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live via Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network with Jay Burnham calling the action.
