CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Kate Letkewicz scored a career-high 26 points to help Dartmouth take down Harvard on the road, 70-64, for its first Ivy League victory of the season.
With the win, the Big Green improve to 1-1 in conference play and 6-12 overall. The loss drops the Crimson to 1-1 in the Ivy League and 6-9 overall.
Letkewicz also finished the night with 17 rebounds for her third career double-double. The Waterloo, Iowa native shot 9 for 17 from the field and went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. As a team Dartmouth shot 49 percent from the floor.
“Harvard had a hard time defending Kate Letkewicz and that's what we talked about these last two weeks,” Big Green head coach Belle Koclanes said. “We talked about getting better and getting our strengths better and Kate is good at a lot of things. She has physicality. She can post up guards and she can post up posts. She can shoot from three and we got her the ball in great positions tonight, credit to her teammates for getting her the ball.”
Senior Lakin Roland continued her stellar season with 18 points and 11 rebounds going 5 of 6 from three-point range for her third double-double of the season.
For the first time this season, Dartmouth outscored its opponents in three quarters. After a solid first half the Big Green took a 34-24 lead into the locker room at the break.
In the third, Harvard kept the pressure on Dartmouth hitting back-to-back three pointers to pull within one of the Big Green lead. A key trey by sophomore Andi Norman gave Dartmouth some breathing room and a 55-47, lead in the opening minutes of the the fourth.
Back-to-back jumpers by Letkewicz extended the Big Green's advantage, however the Crimson made one final push taking a 63-62 lead with just over 2 minutes to play.
A crucial three by Roland and free throws down the stretch preserved the victory for Dartmouth as the Big Green recorded their highest point total of the season thus far.
Dartmouth continues Ivy League play next weekend when the Big Green travel to New York on Friday to take on Columbia and Cornell on Saturday.
