FRIDAY'S GAME
Another weekend of just one game for the Dartmouth field hockey team as it travels to New York to take on Columbia in the 21st all-time meeting between the two programs.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped a wild 7-4 contest to Yale last Saturday in Hanover, dropping their fourth Ivy League contest in as many outings this season. Despite the loss, the four goals scored against the Bulldogs were the most in any Ancient Eight game this fall for Dartmouth.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
The Lions play host to the Big Green with a 6-7 overall mark and a 1-3 record in Ivy play thanks to a 3-2 home win against Cornell on Sept. 30. The Lions are led offensively by Katie Ruesterholz and her 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. The 11 tallies are second most by any player in the Ivy League, while she is tied for the lead in scoring along with Cat Caro of Princeton who also has 28 points. Ruesterholz is just two goals away from tying Gabby Kozlowski for the program's all-time lead with 42 career scorers. In goal, Kendal Kuntz has been the goalie of record in all 13 games and boasts a 3.60 goals against average and a save percentage of .544.
AGAINST THE LIONS
Dartmouth won last year's meeting in Hanover, 4-2. Then-senior Brooke Van Valkenburg scored a pair of penalty corners and Anna Ewasechko notched a goal a trio of assists for a five-point day in the 20th-all-time meeting between the Big Green and Lions.
TWO-GOAL GAME!
Sophomore Evie Bird scored the first goal of her career Sept. 18 in a 3-0 win. Bird doubled up on that with a pair of tallies in the Yale game last weekend. Additionally, Bird notched an assist for a five-point game.
EIGHT FROM FRESHMEN
First-year player Katie Spanos scored one of the four goals in the Yale game. The eight goals scored by the freshman class between Carmen Braceras (6) and Spanos (2) this season represent the most by any class so far. The juniors (6) are second, while the seniors (5) are third and the sophomores (3) rank fourth.
STRONG IN RELIEF
Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Valerio came in against the Bulldogs for the final 42:08 of action. In that time, Valerio in and made eight saves, tying her career high that she also set against Albany in the season opener in which she played 12 more minutes than she did against Yale.
