All-Time Series vs. Longwood: Big Green lead 4-1
Last Meeting vs. Lancers: Dec. 22, 2015 — Dartmouth 78, Longwood 54
Start of Longest Road Trip
• Dartmouth takes to the road for its longest stretch away from Hanover — four games — starting with a showdown on Monday night at Longwood.
• While the Big Green have lost their first three games of the 2016-17 season, they are trending the right way having scored more points each game while yielding less every time.
• On Saturday, Dartmouth was bested by Marist, which finished the game on a 10-2 run to hand the Green a 75-69 defeat.
• Dartmouth drained 11 three-pointers against the Red Foxes, its most since March 1, 2014.
• Both Miles Wright and Evan Boudreaux provided four triples apiece, matching a career high for the latter.
• Boudreaux notched his second double-double of the season — and 12th in 30 career games — leading the Green with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
• Wright, meanwhile, had a season-best 16 points, all of which came in the second half.
• A third Big Green player reached double figures as well in Guilien Smith, who posted a career-high 15 points on 6-of-10 from the floor.
• Dartmouth entered the game ninth in the country in free throw percentage, but converted just 8-of-16 at the foul line against Marist.
• Taylor Johnson has taken over the point guard duties this season and dished out a personal-best five assists.
Series vs. Longwood
• This is the sixth straight year these two teams have squared off on the hardwood with Dartmouth sporting a 4-1 advantage thus far.
• The lone Lancer win came two years ago on this court when Longwood overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 40 seconds for a 74-73 victory.
• The Big Green exacted some revenge last year in a 78-54 pasting at Leede Arena.
• Evan Boudreaux had a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds, while three others joined him in double figures, including Miles Wright with 15.
• Dartmouth is 5-2 against current Big South teams, with a win over Campbell 25 years ago and a loss to Radford back in 2005.
Scouting the Lancers
• Longwood, picked to finish ninth in the 10-team Big South Conference, has opened the season with a 1-3 record.
• The lone victory was an 87-74 triumph over Division II Salem International on Nov. 18 before dropping an 87-72 game at St. Francis (Pa.) five days later.
• The Lancers feature two players averaging between 16 and 17 points a game in guard Darrion Allen (16.8) and forward Khris Lane (16.3).
• Allen is the team's top long-range shooter with 14 three-pointers at a 45.2 percent clip, and is second on the squad at five caroms a night.
• Lane, on the other hand, does most of his damage on the blocks, shooting 56.8 percent overall with 8.3 rebounds per game. But he can step out and hit from range, shooting 7-of-12 behind the arc.
• The only other Lancer contributing more than six points a game is guard Isaiah Walton (13.0), the team's top free throw shooter (13-of-14, .929).
• Longwood has had some trouble guarding the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot nearly 39 percent from distance.
• Jayson Gee (Charleston (W.Va.) '88) is in his fourth season at Longwood with a 30-73 record entering this game and a 190-126 mark in his 11th season as a head coach. He spent seven years at his alma mater, posting six 20-win seasons and four trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Familiar Voice
Dartmouth fans will be able to watch the game against Longwood for free on the Big South Network. Those that watched the Big Green on the Ivy League Digital Network last year may recognize the voice calling the game, for it will be Jay Burnham, Dartmouth's play-by-play announcer in 2015-16.
Three-Point Deluge
Against Marist on Nov. 26, Dartmouth drilled 11 three-pointers, its most since dropping a dozen in an 87-78 win over Cornell on March 1, 2014. Since that game, the Big Green had hit double figures on threes just once — 10 in a 67-51 victory at Mercer on Dec. 16, 2014. In the 18 games that Dartmouth has popped at least 10 since the 2005-06 season, the Green have gone just 8-10.
The Wright Half
Apparently the first half was wrong for Miles Wright against Marist, because the second was certainly right. After being held without a point for the first 20 minutes against the Red Foxes, Wright exploded for 16 after halftime thanks in large part to four three-pointers. It was the third-highest total for a half in his career, trailing the first (17) and second (22) halves of his 39-point explosion against LIU Brooklyn last year.
Boudreaux at 500 and Counting
Sophomore Evan Boudreaux keeps chugging along, leading Dartmouth with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Marist. It was his second double-double of the year and 12th of his career in just 30 games. Prior to that, he recorded his 500th career point in the first half against Fairfield on Nov. 15. By reaching the milestone in his 29th career game, he is the fifth-fastest Big Green player to hit the mark. Paul Erland '72 got there the quickest, needing just 22 games to do so, followed by Adam Sutton '76 (26), then James Brown '73 and Bill Raynor '74, both of whom scored their 500th point in game number 27.
Getting Guilien With It
Sophomore Guilien Smith has established himself as one of Dartmouth's top scoring threats with a strong start to the 2016-17 campaign. Against Fairfield on Nov. 15, he sank three three-pointers in the first four minutes, setting a personal high for an entire game. Then on Nov. 26 versus Marist, he totaled 15 points, also a career high.
Fleming Hits the Jackpot
Senior point guard Mike Fleming has scored exactly seven points in each of the first three games of the season. He should take that act to Las Vegas and try the slots …
Barry Buries First Points
Freshman Brendan Barry saw his first action of the season in the opener at Rhode Island, but he collected his first bucket in his next appearance against Marist. Late in the first half, the rookie knocked down a 23-footer for the first of what promises to be a number of three-pointers in his Big Green career.
Boudreaux Getting Board
With his 10 rebounds against Marist on Nov. 26, sophomore Evan Boudreaux led the Big Green in rebounding for the 15th consecutive game in which he has played. For his career, he has topped the team on the glass 24 times in 30 games.
