THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
Dartmouth will kick off the 2016 season down south when the Big Green compete in the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Alabama.
SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
Wichita State started its season a couple weeks ago in the Aggie Classic where it recorded two victories over Colorado State before falling to Texas A&M and No. 7 UCLA. Currently at 4-6, the Shockers offensive production thus far has come from Kelli Spring and Mackenzie Wright who lead the team with 11 hits each. Spring also leads the team batting .355 over 10 games.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
After dropping three of four games in the CSU Dome Invitational, Bowling Green took two of four in the Rafter Memorial Tournament last weekend in Georgia. The Falcons defeated Rutgers 6-1, before taking down Morehead State 11-1 in 6 innings. Bowling Green sits at 3-5 heading into the South Alabama Invitational as Haley Schrock leads the team with 12 hits in eight games. In the circle, Brooke Parker leads the team with a 2.92 ERA over 12 innings pitched.
SCOUTING THE JAGS
South Alabama starts the season 6-4 after sweeping the the Sand Dollar Classic and earning the No. 23 spot in the USA Today / NFCA Coaches Poll. However, in the latest poll, the Jags fell out of the Top 25 after falling to Mississippi State and South Illinois in the Mardi Gras Invitational. South Alabama is led by Emily Messer who set a school record for hits in a game against Southern Mississippi going 5-5. She currently leads the Sun Belt Conference in batting average (.657), on-base % (.676) and hits (23).
PRESEASON HONORS
Earlier this year, second year head coach Shannon Doepking was named CollegeSportsMadness.com Preseason Ivy League Coach of the Year, while senior Katie McEachern was tabbed as Field Player of the Year and was named to the Preseason All-Ivy First Team. Senior Morgan McCalmon was named Pitcher of the Year and grabbed First Team honors. Joining her on the Preseason First Team were juniors Maddie Damore and Karen Chaw.
CLASS OF 2019
Five freshmen will wear the Green and White uniform for the first time this season. The Class of 2019 is comprised of: Miranda Greig, Morgan Martinelli, Lauren Stone, Taylor Ward, and Kassidy Williams.
STEPPING UP IN THE CIRCLE
Dartmouth will be without three-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, Kristen Rumley after the Big Green's ace graduated last spring. However, Rumley will not be far as she joins the Dartmouth coaching staff in 2016. The Big Green will look to McCalmon after she finished last season with a 2.43 ERA and 10-2 record in 22 appearances in the circle.
