THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's hockey team hits the road for the final weekend of the regular season at St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE?
The Big Green are in the midst of a battle for the fourth and final first-round bye. Dartmouth can finish as high as fourth and no lower than eighth in the standings, guaranteeing at least home-ice advantage in the first-round were they to finish fifth or below.
WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
The good people at PlayoffStatus.com have the Big Green's chances at earning the No. 4 at 27% with the team still in control of their destiny for that spot. However, Friday's opponent in St. Lawrence is one point ahead of Dartmouth coming into the weekend and has a 35% chance of retaining that slot in the standings. Dartmouth cannot lock up a bye with a win Friday night in Canton, but it can be eliminated from contention with a loss to the Saints.
LAST TIME OUT
For the fourth straight weekend, the Green split their two conference matchups. This past weekend marked the first time in that stretch that Dartmouth won its Friday night game and fell on Saturday as it defeated Colgate, 5-2, before falling the next night to Cornell, 1-0, in the regular season home finale.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Corey Kalk was tabbed as the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after his career night against the Raiders. Kalk set new single-game personal bests with two goals and four points, while tying his career mark with a pair of assists in the victory. Kalk joins Jack Barre (twice) and Troy Crema as the Dartmouth players to earn the highest weekly accolade from the conference office.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence welcomes Dartmouth to historic Appleton Arena on Friday night having lost at Yale and tied at Brown last weekend in its final road trip of the 2015-16 regular season. Canaan, New Hampshire, native Gavin Bayreuther leads the Saints in goals (10), assists (15) and points (25) with Dartmouth transfer Brian Ward second in total scoring with 22 points. In goal, sophomore Kyle Hayton is in anything but a slump this season, posting a 2.05 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Like the Big Green and Saints, Clarkson is not assured of its playoff positioning heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Golden Knights are currently in eighth with 19 points with any point or a Union loss securing them at least home ice in the first round. Clarkson can finish between fifth and ninth with no chance of a first-round bye in the cards this season. Sophomore Sam Vigneault leads the team this year in goals (10), assists (14) and points (24) and is the only player on the roster to crack the 20-point mark. Goaltending duties have been split between senior Greg Lewis and junior Steve Perry so far with Lewis' numbers giving him the slight edge in terms of playing time.
AGAINST THESE TEAMS
Dartmouth has already defeated each of these teams once this season with a home sweep back in mid-January.
- Against Clarkson, Kevin Neiley, Tim Shoup and River Rymsha all scored their first career goals in a 5-2 win at Thompson Arena. Neiley added the second goal of his career in the third period to seal the win.
- Charles Grant stood on his head the following night in a 4-2 win against St. Lawrence, making a season-high 37 saves. Crema, Barre and Patterson netted goals in the win with Brad Schierhorn's empty netter with seven seconds left securing the sweep.
275 AND COUNTING
With the win against Colgate, head coach Bob Gaudet '81 reached 275 career wins at his alma mater. Gaudet trails only Eddie Jeremiah '30 for the most victories all-time at Dartmouth as Jeremiah has 308 to his credit.
BARRE'S THE BEST
The senior winger is currently in the midst of his best season as he also leads the team in goals (12), assists (13) and points (25). He had a goal and an assist against Colgate for his team-leading seventh multi-point game this season.
HOLLYWOOD HESLER
Like his linemate, sophomore Carl Hesler also had a goal and an assist against the Raiders at home. His ENG in the final seconds was the 10th marker of the season, making he and Barre the two lone Dartmouth players to reach double digits in goals this year. The team is 9-3-1 when Hesler registers at least one point.
TWO HELPERS AND A PLUS-3
Freshman Cam Roth had just one point (an assist) in nine games prior to the Colgate contest. Roth finished the night with two points, assisting on Barre's tally and Kalk's second of the day. More importantly, the Ontario native had played so well in his own zone throughout the game that he was on the ice in the final moments with Colgate's net empty pushing for the equalizer. He finished the game a plus-3.
SENIORS DISHING OUT APPLES
Against the Raiders, seniors Brett Patterson and Ryan Bullock each had a pair of assists. For Patterson, the two points pushed him into second on the team in scoring with 19 points (8-11-19) which is are new career highs in goals and points and one off his previous best of 12 assists set last year. Bullock's two assists gave him his first-multi-point game of the season.
CHUCK AND JIMMY
Dartmouth continues to use each of its senior goalies down the stretch. James Kruger picked up the win against Colgate, making 18 saves and allowing just a pair of second-period scores. The following night, Charles Grant was outstanding, making 20 saves and allowing just one goal. However, Cornell's Mitch Gilliam posted a 33-save shutout at the other end causing Grant's one goal against to be a painful pill to swallow in the form of the game winner.
SECOND-HALF SURGES
Only two ECAC Hockey teams have more double-digit wins since the start of January: Dartmouth (11) and Yale (12). Clarkson and Harvard each have nine, while Quinnipiac's .708 winning percentage trails only their Whitney Avenue rivals' .867, it comes thanks to a 6-1-5 record since the start of 2016. Yale is a remarkable 12-1-2 since the start of the new calendar year.
