ITHACA, N.Y. – For the first time in five years, the Dartmouth men finished in the top-four at the Ivy League's Indoor Heptagonal Championship.
The Big Green claimed third at the 2016 championship meet with 80 points. Junior Corey Muggler was named the Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet, the first individual honor for a Dartmouth male student-athlete indoors since Mustafa Abdur-Rahim in 2003 and 2004.
The third-place showing was the best for the Big Green since they also claimed third in 2011. The 80 points were the most since an 81-point showing in 2002.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Joe Chapin dominated the field of 25 in the 5000m, winning the event with relative ease as the runner-up was nearly seven second back. Chapin ran a 14:25.96 to help Dartmouth pick up its only event win of the day and secure 10 points in the process.
o Chapin finished the weekend with 18 points after a second-place showing on Saturday in the 3000m.
- Justin Donawa claimed second and eight points in the men's triple jump. Donawa's best distance of the day was measured at 51-1.0/15.57m and came on his second attempt. Muggler was fifth with a 50-1.75/15.28m, giving him another two points after he won the long jump on Saturday.
- Junior Tim Gorman was third in the mile run (the first event of the day on the track). Gorman ran a 4:14.49, less than a second back of the first-place finisher.
