HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's basketball team gathered on Monday night for its end-of-year banquet to distribute the team awards. Freshman
Evan Boudreaux, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and member of the USBWA All-District I Team, was honored with the A.D. “Dolly” Stark Award as the Big Green's most valuable player.
A 6-8, 225-pound forward from Lake Forest, Illinois, Boudreaux set numerous Dartmouth freshman records as the second-leading scorer in the Ivy League at 17.7 points a game and third-leading rebounder at 9.4 caroms a night. He registered 10 double-doubles, the most by a Big Green player in 23 years, and scored in double figures 24 times in 27 games, topping 20 points on 10 occasions with a high of 27 at The Palestra against the Penn Quakers on Feb. 5. In Ivy League play, he was the only player to average a double-double with 20.2 ppg (2nd in the league) and 10.8 rebounds (1st), grabbing a season-high 18 boards against Cornell on Jan. 30. Boudreaux led the Big Green, or tied for the team lead, in scoring 19 times and rebounding 21 while being selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week eight times, tying a conference record. In addition, he was one of just two Division I freshman to average at least 17 points and nine rebounds, with LSU's Ben Simmons being the other.
The Alvin F. “Doggie” Julian Award for spirit and enthusiasm was given to sophomore
Miles Wright, a 6-5, 210-pound wing from Boston. Wright was the Big Green's second-leading scorer at 11.2 points per game, reaching double figures 15 times, while becoming the second player in program history to lead the team in both three-pointers made (37) and blocked shots (12). Back in November, he tied the Leede Arena record by putting up 39 points against LIU Brooklyn — the most by an Ivy League player all season — as he knocked down 7-of-9 three-pointers. His 4.4-rebound average was third-best on the squad, and his 32 steals were the second most as well.
Senior
Connor Boehm of Winnetka, Illinois, was honored with the John DiIorio '56 Award for hustle, drive and determination. One of the most consistent performers in Dartmouth history, Boehm was a rock in the frontcourt, averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds during the season. The 6-7, 235-pound forward hit exactly half of his field goal attempts (128-of-256) to rank 10th in the Ivy League, and his 58 assists were second most on the team. He played in 112 of the 113 games that took place during his four years, tied for second in program history, and along with his career averages of 10.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg, he is one of just eight players at Dartmouth to shoot at least 50 percent while making a minimum of 200 field goals.
Finally, the Rudy LaRusso '59 Award was given to sophomore
Taylor Johnson (Fort Worth, Texas) as the team's most improved player. Johnson began the season slowly, averaging just 3.3 points over the first half of the year as his playing time was limited by some defensive liabilities. He worked hard to become a better defensive player, and his hard work paid off in the second half as his playing time increased, as did his offensive production to nearly 10 points a game. He was Dartmouth's third-leading scorer in Ivy League play (10.2 ppg) and shot a robust 57.9 percent overall and 48.1 percent from long range against the Ancient Eight. The 6-4, 180-pound guard finished the year with a 7.7-point scoring average, leading the conference in free throw percentage (.907) while converting 52.3 percent (57-of-109) field goals and 46.7 percent (21-of-45) three-pointers.
Dartmouth completed the regular season 10-18 overall and 4-10 in the Ivy League to finish sixth in the conference standings.
