TUESDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth softball team continues its West Coast swing when the Big Green take on Stanford in California on Tuesday evening.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth is coming off a solid showing in the Santa Clara Round Robin Tournament where the Big Green took four out of five from their opponents. Most recently, Dartmouth defeated CSU Bakersfield 6-3, in a game where senior Katie McEachern and junior Karen Chaw each homered to propel the Big Green to their third consecutive victory.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
Stanford heads into the contest having dropped back-to-back games against Cal Poly and Tulsa in the Louisville Slugger Classic Tournament, which was hosted by the Cardinal. Stanford was outscored in both games by a combined 19 runs after the Cardinal had previously won four straight in the Hawaii Tournament. Junior Kylie Sorenson leads her team with 25 hits on the season including six home runs. Not far behind her is senior Kayla Bonstrom who has 25 hits with a team-high seven doubles. Stanford is coached by former Dartmouth head coach Rachel Hanson, who led the Big Green to their first Ivy League Title in 2014 with 18 conference victories, the most in school history in a season.
MAKING AN IMPACT EARLY
Freshman Morgan Martinelli has made her presence known on the diamond in her rookie season. She is currently tied with McEachern for a team-high 13 hits and leads Dartmouth with five doubles.
IT'S OUTTA HERE
McEachern has been a scoring threat for the Big Green all season. She is currently tied for first in the Ivy League with four home runs, including a grand slam against South Alabama. As a team, Dartmouth is tied for fourth among the Ancient Eight teams in total home runs with six.
SUCCESS IN THE CIRCLE
With a 4-3 record in seven starts, senior Morgan McCalmon has been the Big Green's top pitcher this season. In 34.1 innings of work she has 35 strikeouts and has surrendered just 15 walks. Sophomore Breanna Ethridge has also been successful in the circle for Dartmouth with a team best 4.15 ERA, she leads the league in saves (2) and has struck out 26 batters.
