MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 42 Dartmouth men's tennis wrapped up its five-match Spring Break trip on a strong note, defeating No. 33 Memphis, 4-0, at the Racquet Club of Memphis on Thursday. The Big Green improved to 12-7, while the Tigers fell to 9-8.
Dartmouth switched doubles teams up a little bit and won at the No. 1 and 3 positions to take the first point. At No. 1, senior Brendan Tannenbaum and junior George Wall defeated Kai Lemke and Louis Asser, 6-4, and, at No. 3, senior Dovydas Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner had a 6-4 victory over Andrew Watson and Shakeel Manji.
At the No. 2 position, junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic were leading Ryan Peniston and Felix Rauch, 5-4, when the match went unfinished.
In singles play, freshman Eddie Grabill gave the Green its next point, taking down Manji, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6, while Fliegner made it 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Chris Patzanovsky at the No. 4 position. Wall clinched the match in three sets at the No. 3 position, winning the first against Lemke, 6-2, and dropping the second, 6-3. The Dartmouth junior took the third set, 6-3, to end the match.
The Big Green will open Ivy League play over the weekend, facing Columbia at 1 p.m. on Saturday before taking on Cornell at the same time on Sunday.
