THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's hockey team will host Colgate this weekend at Thompson Arena in the First Round of the 2016 ECAC Hockey Championship. Games 1 and 2 are Friday and Saturday night. If necessary, Game 3 will be Sunday at 5 p.m.
WHERE WE STAND
The Big Green are the No. 7 seed in the tournament with 22 points and an 11-11-0 conference mark this season. That seeding earned them the right to host the 10th-seeded Raiders in the first round.
HOW WE DID vs. THE RAIDERS IN 2015-16
Dartmouth swept Colgate this season, picking up two wins against the Raiders for the first time since the 2006-07 season. The Green overcame an early 2-0 hole in Hamilton back in January before coming away with a 3-2 win. The game at Thompson two weeks ago was a different story as Dartmouth led 4-0 in the second period and cruised to a 5-2 victory thanks in large part to a four-point night (2-2-4) from sophomore Corey Kalk.
POSTSEASON PLAY AGAINST COLGATE
These two teams met in last year's ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals in Hamilton with the Raiders earning the hard-fought sweep en route to finishing as the tournament runners-up. The 11 games against Colgate make them the second-most frequent postseason opponent for Dartmouth, behind only Rensselaer (15). Overall, the Big Green have the slight edge, 6-5, in the all-time postseason match-ups, but are 0-1 in the first round against the Raiders (a 4-2 double-overtime loss 1993 when the round was single elimination).
| Year | Record | Results |

THE LONGEST GAME IN PROGRAM HISTORY
No other Dartmouth men's or women's hockey game has gone longer than the 4-3 four-overtime game played between the Big Green and Raiders on March 14, 2003. The game went 121:05 before Colgate's Kyle Wilson netted the winner just over a minute into the seventh period. Dartmouth would rebound, however, winning the next two games, 3-1 and 5-2, to advance to the semifinals in Albany. That game remains the sixth longest in NCAA history.
WHAT A MONTH!
Kalk had a great February, tying for the league lead in goals with six in the month. The sophomore winger really ramped things up in the final two weeks as he scored two goals against both Colgate and St. Lawrence and another in the finale at Clarkson for five in his last three games. He also had a pair of assists to bring his total to seven points in that stretch with an ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honor to show for it.
SCOUTING COLGATE
The Raiders earned the No. 10 seed after a 6-14-2 record in ECAC Hockey games this season. That seed was in doubt until the final weekend of the season when Colgate swept Rensselaer and Union as they closed down their nearly 60-year old home Starr Rink. As a result of the sweep, Tylor Spink was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week (2-1-3), while junior Charlie Finn was named the league's Goaltender of the Week. The other Spink Twin, Tyson, leads the Raiders in goals (13), assists (22) and points (35), just ahead of Tylor (11-19-30) in scoring.
REALLY GOOD TO BE HOME
Dartmouth had a chance to earn a bye, but was unable to come away from the North Country with enough points. However, it is good for the Green to be back at Thompson this weekend as Dartmouth was 9-5-0 this season on home ice for the fourth-best winning percentage amongst the league's 12 teams at .643. On the flip side, the Big Green are just 5-9-1 (.367) this season in road games, the eighth-best winning percentage, while the five wins were tied with four other teams for sixth.
NO TIES? NO TIES
Dartmouth finished the season without a conference tie, going 11-11-0. The only other program in the nation to do the same to this point is Minnesota, who is 12-4-0 in Big Ten play with two weekends of regular-season play remaining.
MOST OUTSIDE THE TOP-4
The Big Green's 11 conference wins this season are tied for the fourth most along with St. Lawrence. Outside of the top-four teams in the conference standings (Quinnipiac [16], Yale [14], Harvard [12] and St. Lawrence [11]), no other team in ECAC Hockey had more conference wins than Dartmouth.
IN THE FIRST ROUND
Dartmouth is 12-11 all-time in the first round of the ECAC Hockey Championship. Of that figure, six wins and five losses have come in Hanover.
HOME SERIES
This weekend marks the 12th home playoff series all-time for the Big Green. In the previous 11 instances, Dartmouth is 10-1, a remarkable figure made even more impressive given the team's 2-8 mark in 10 series away from Thompson. Overall, the team is 22-8 all-time in postseason home games.
WINNING GAMES
In best-of-three series, Dartmouth has a winning record in both Game 2 (13-8) and the decisive Game 3 (6-3), but wins just 38 percent of Game 1s (8-13).
AS A No. 7 SEED
Dartmouth is just 0-1when seeded seventh in the postseason, a 5-3 loss against No. 2 Boston College in the 1965 conference tournament. That was the first time the team had made the league's postseason.
AGAINST A No. 10 SEED
The Green and White are 3-1 against 10 seeds with a 2-1 series win against Harvard in 2011 and a 3-2 overtime win against Vermont in a 2001 ECAC Hockey Preliminary Game, a round that no longer exists.
AROUND ECAC HOCKEY
There are four postseason matchups around the league this weekend.
- No. 5 Clarkson vs. No. 12 Princeton
- No. 6 Rensselaer vs. No. 11 Brown
- No. 7 Dartmouth vs. No. 10 Colgate
- No. 8 Cornell vs. No. 9 Union
- Byes: No. 1 Quinnipiac, No. 2 Yale, No. 3 Harvard and No. 4 St. Lawrence
The 2016 ECAC Hockey Championship re-seeds following each round so that the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed, rather than a straight bracket. Winners of the first round move on to play the top-four teams in the quarterfinals with those winners moving on to Lake Placid and the semis and final.

WHAT'S AHEAD?
The winners of this weekend's first round series will move on to take on the bye teams in the quarterfinals. A Dartmouth win would send it to either Yale, Harvard or SLU, depending on the outcomes of the other series. The only team Dartmouth cannot play in the next round is Quinnipiac, as at least one team seeded lower must advance.
