HANOVER, N.H. — The All-Ivy League teams and award winners were announced by the conference office today, and Dartmouth freshman Evan Boudreaux was not only named to the second team, but the Rookie of the Year as well as selected by the league's coaches. This is the second straight year a Big Green player has earned the award and ninth in program history.
Yale senior Justin Sears took home the Player of the Year award for the second straight year, and his head coach, James Jones, was a unanimous selection as the Coach of the Year. Garnering Defensive Player of the Year honors was Harvard senior Agunwa Okolie.
Hailing from Lake Forest, Illinois, Boudreaux was an offensive force for the Big Green from the very beginning, tallying 25 points in the season opener at Seton Hall. Ten times he topped 20 points in a game, topping out at 27 at The Palestra against Penn on Feb. 5, as he averaged 17.7 points, second in the Ivy League. Boudreaux was also aggressive on the boards as he averaged 9.4 rebounds a game, third among the conference's players, including a whopping 10.8 a night in Ivy League games to lead the loop and be the only player to average a double-double against the rest of the league (20.2 points, second in Ivy).
The only Ivy Leaguer chosen for a USBWA All-District Team yesterday, Boudreaux tied a league record by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week eight times throughout the season. He led Dartmouth in scoring 19 times and rebounding 21 times as he produced 10 double-doubles, the most by a Dartmouth player in 23 years. Among the numerous Big Green freshman records he broke were for scoring and rebound averages, total points (478) and total rebounds (254). In addition, he is also one of just two freshmen in the nation to post averages of at least 17 points and nine rebounds, the other being the national Freshman of the Year, Ben Simmons of LSU.
Notes: Boudreaux is the fourth Dartmouth selection in the last four years to earn a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team, joining Gabas Maldunas (2012-13, '14-15) and Alex Mitola (2014-15) …of the nine Rookies of the Year for the Big Green, three came before freshmen were eligible to play and the award was dubbed “Sophomore of the Year” … the Rookie of the Year award last year went to Miles Wright.
