THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
The Dartmouth softball team will get back to conference play with a four game series at Brown on Saturday and Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a split of a midweek doubleheader with UMass Lowell this past Tuesday in Hanover. In Game 1 Dartmouth fell 4-3, but not before loading the bases in the seventh inning for a come back that fell just short. In Game 2 most of the Big Green's regular starters returned to the lineup as the home team won 8-0 in six innings. Dartmouth got off to a 3-0 lead and with one swing of the bat, the Big Green were up 7-0 when freshman Kassidy Williams hit her first career home run, which was a grand slam to left field. Senior Morgan McCalmon earned the win after she pitched four phenomenal innings, allowing just one hit with seven strike outs.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown is having a decent year with a 16-12 overall record and 5-3 mark in conference play. The Bears have the third most wins in the Ivy League behind Harvard's six and Dartmouth's eight. Recently, Brown dropped its final non-conference game of the season to Boston University 7-3 in Providence on Wednesday night. The Bear's offense is led by freshman outfielder Ashli Lotz, who leads the team in hits (34), doubles (10), RBIs (19) and is batting a team-high .378 in 90 at bats. This weekend the Big Green will likely run into Brown's best pitcher, sophomore Katie Orona. She leads her team with a 2.40 ERA in 16 appearances and is 8-5 with 13 starts. Orona was also the Ivy League Co-Pitcher of the Week this past week, which was an accolade she shared with Dartmouth's McCalmon.
LEADERS OF THE PACK
The Big Green are the only undefeated team left in Ivy League play at 8-0, as Dartmouth sits atop the North Division standings. Ancient Eight foe Harvard is behind the Big Green in second, followed by the Bears and Yale. Princeton leads the South Division at 4-4 while Penn and Columbia are tied for second at 2-6.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
Dartmouth is currently leading the Ivy League in four hitting categories including runs (159), triples (11), on base percentage (.370) and RBIs (166).
IN THE CIRCLE
McCalmon has emerged as the Big Green's ace with a league leading 12 wins and is second in the conference in strikeouts (87) and saves (3). Sophomore Breanna Ethridge is also having a solid year with a team-best 2.13 ERA in 17 appearances. She also leads the Ivy League with five saves.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Morgan Martinelli is having a fantastic rookie season in Hanover. This week she captured her second Ivy League Rookie of the Week award and is currently on an 11 game hitting streak, the longest since senior Katie McEachern's 15 game hit streak. Martinelli is batting a team-best .439 with 10 doubles and 20 RBIs
