Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1

4/9/2016 5:39:00 PM | Men's Tennis
HANOVER, N.H. – No. 38 Dartmouth men's tennis defeated No. 37 Princeton by a score of 4-2 on Saturday, playing at the Boss Tennis Center for the first time in almost a month. The Big Green improved to 14-8 and 2-1 in Ivy League action, while the Tigers fell to 14-7 and dropped their first conference match of the season, dipping to 2-1.
"We played great doubles today," head coach Chris Drake said. "All three teams and all six players were ready to go from the start and produced some very good tennis. Princeton came at us with some extremely good, aggressive tennis at the beginning of singles and turned the momentum in their favor for a while. Winning the first set tiebreakers on No. 3 and No. 5 was huge for us at that point in the match. This was a great team effort. The atmosphere in Boss/Gordon was electric today. Thanks to the crowd of students and community members for cheering us on so enthusiastically."
A 6-1 victory by junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic at the No. 2 doubles position and a 6-2 win by senior Dovydas Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner at No. 3 gave the first point to Dartmouth. At the No. 1 position, the 63rd-ranked pairing of junior George Wall and senior Brendan Tannenbaum was leading, 4-2, when the match went unfinished.
Back-to-back wins by Princeton at the No. 6 and 2 positions put the Tigers ahead, 2-1. Those would be the only points the Green would allow, however, as the home team went on to win the next three singles matches to clinch the victory. No. 90 Sakinis had a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Diego Vives at the No. 1 position to tie the score at two-all, while Fliegner gave Dartmouth the go-ahead with a three-set win over Alexander Day at No. 4.
At the No. 5 position, Schmidt won the ever-important fourth point with a 7-6, 6-1 defeat of Luke Gamble.
On Sunday, the Green will host the Quakers at 1 p.m.
