HANOVER, N.H. — Earlier this week, senior Mike Fleming embarked on an eight-day goodwill tour of Croatia through Global Sports Academy. He is one of 10 players from the NCAA Division I, II and III ranks that will play a four-game schedule with former Dartmouth assistant coach Jordan Watson (now an assistant at Siena) leading the squad.
The tour, which takes place Aug. 16-23, will take the team to places such as Split, Zadar, Sibenik, Trogir, Dubrovnik and Montenegro with numerous sight-seeing opportunities. The Division I players joining Fleming on the team are Ivy Leaguers Peter Barba from Columbia and Brandon Charnov from Brown, as well as Brett Bispring and Evan Fisher from Siena, and Courtney Stockard from St. Bonaventure. The other players are Austin Heins (Concordia (Minn.) College), Scottie Stone (St. Cloud State), Nasser Al-Rayes (Cal Tech) and Herbie Brown (Lancaster Bible College).
This is the third straight year in which a Dartmouth player has embarked on a goodwill tour with Global Sports Academy. In the summer of 2014, John Golden played for Watson during a tour to Belguim, The Netherlands and England. Last year it was Kevin Crescenzi who went to those same places on a team coached by former Dartmouth director of basketball operations Abe Woldeslassie.
Since 1991, Global Sports Academy has been arranging tours for college and youth teams from the United States and countries around the world to promote international competition and goodwill. It was initially established to provide athletes overseas playing opportunities in ice hockey and has grown to support a total of 12 different sports that compete in 25 different countries. As a not-for-profit organization, its mission is to create and arrange athletic competition between equally matched teams at all international levels, promote international goodwill and a better understanding between nations through sports.
