First Full Ivy Weekend
• Conference play ratchets up this weekend for Dartmouth with its first back-to-back games at Columbia on Friday and Cornell on Saturday.
• The Lions and Big Red opened Ivy League play by meeting twice, much like Dartmouth and Harvard, but the two each won on the other's court.
• Last Saturday, the Big Green rallied for a 35-34 halftime lead at Harvard, only to falter in the second half, 82-68.
• Four Dartmouth players scored in double figures for just the third time this year, this time led by Guilien Smith with 18 points.
• The Big Green's leading scorer and Ivy League's top rebounder this season, Evan Boudreaux, had 15 points and five boards, the first time in his last 33 games in which he did not lead the team in either scoring or rebounding (or both).
• Wesley Dickinson contributed 12 points to the effort against the Crimson, a career high against a Division I team for the senior.
• Freshman Brendan Barry set personal highs with 28 minutes, six assists and four rebounds. The six assists match the most by any Big Green player this season.
• Seven of Dartmouth's top-eight scorers are shooting at least 73 percent from the foul line, including Mike Fleming who is perfect in 14 attempts.
Series vs. Columbia
• These two teams have squared off 210 times to date with the Lions leading, 111-99.
• Last year Columbia beat the Big Green in Leede Arena, 77-60, before completing the season sweep with a 73-54 triumph here in New York, the sixth straight year one team swept the other (Dartmouth won the series in 2013 and 2015).
• Evan Boudreaux averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games last year for Dartmouth, and Miles Wright is shooting 51.7 percent in his four games against the Lions.
• Dartmouth has a record of 17-25 in Columbia's Levien Gymnasium since it opened in 1974.
Scouting the Lions
• Columbia had its three-game winning streak snapped when Cornell kept the Lions in the red in a 67-62 contest last Saturday.
• The Lions have a slightly better record on the road (4-4) than at home (3-4).
• Luke Petrasek, who scored 21 total points in the two games against Dartmouth last year, leads Columbia with 15.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg.
• Guards Nate Hickman (14.1 ppg) and Mike Smith (13.5) also average in double figures, with the latter leading the team with 3.6 assists a night.
• All three of the top scorers can knock down the three-pointer, with at least 20 triples apiece at a clip between 35 and 39 percent.
• Columbia has had one of the better offenses in the league to date, ranking second in the league in scoring and third in field goal percentage.
• Jim Engles (Dickinson '90), an assistant at Columbia from 2003-08, is in his first year leading the Lions. He spent the last six years leading NJIT to a record of 100-88, including consecutive 20-win seasons each of the last two years.
Series vs. Cornell
• Dartmouth has played the Big Red to a dead heat over 212 games with each team winning 106.
• Last year, Cornell erased a nine-point Big Green lead in the final 3:35, thanks largely to 18 free throw attempts in that span, to rally for a 77-73 victory in Hanover. Three weeks later, Dartmouth returned the favor with a 78-66 win here at Newman Arena.
• Evan Boudreaux averaged 23 points and 17 rebounds in the two games versus the Big Red, including a career-high 18 rebounds in the win.
• Cornell has won the first game of the series each of the last four years, only to have Dartmouth salvage a split each time.
• The Big Green are 9-16 versus Cornell in Newman Arena, winning their last two contests at the venue since dropping nine straight.
Scouting the Big Red
• Aside from its victory at Columbia last weekend, Cornell has beaten Lafayette, Northeastern, SE Missouri State and Fisher College this season.
• While the Big Red have averaged nearly 73 points a game, they have surrendered almost 78, last among the Ivy League teams.
• Guard Matt Morgan, last year's Ivy League scoring champ, is at it again this year, leading the conference at 18.3 ppg while ranking 13th nationally in three-pointers made per game (3.4).
• Robert Hatter and 6-8 forward Stone Gettings (12.4 ppg apiece) also score in double figures, with the latter leading the team with 50 assists and 12 blocks.
• Those three also are the top rebounders on the team, with Josh Warren matching Hatter's 4.6 rpg.
• The Big Red do a good job of denying opponents second-chance opportunities with the second-best defensive rebound percentage in the league.
• Cornell is seventh in the league in free throw shooting (.678), and without Morgan and Hatter, that percentage drops to 60.0.
• Head coach Brian Earl (Princeton '99) is in his first season guiding the Big Red after nine seasons as an assistant at his alma mater.

Streak Ends for Boudreaux
For 32 consecutive games in which he played, Evan Boudreaux had led the Big Green in either scoring or rebounding, or both, entering the game at Harvard on Jan. 21. That streak came to an end however, as Guilien Smith trumped Boudreaux's 15 points with 18 of his own, and Miles Wright grabbed seven boards to his five. Now, of the 42 collegiate games that Boudreaux has played, he has led the team in at least one of the categories 38 times.
Four Not So Lucky This Time
For the third time this season, Dartmouth had four players score at least 10 points in a game with Guilien Smith (18), Evan Boudreaux (15), Wesley Dickinson (12) and Brendan Barry (10) doing so against Harvard on Jan. 21. But for the first time, having four to hit double digits did not lead to a victory as Dartmouth lost to the Crimson, 82-68.
The 700 Club
Sophomore Evan Boudreaux recorded his 700th career point with a three-pointer late in the second half against Harvard on Jan. 7. By reaching the milestone in his 41st career game, he is the fourth-fastest Big Green player to hit the mark. Paul Erland '72 got there the quickest, needing just 32 games to do so, followed by James Brown '73 (37) and Bill Raynor '74 (40). Adam Sutton '76 also achieved the feat in 41 games to match Boudreaux, who is Dartmouth's active leading scorer with 717 points. Junior Miles Wright joined the club as his five points at Harvard on Jan. 21 gives him exactly 700.
Barrying Three-Pointers
Freshman Brendan Barry has asserted himself over the last six games, partly due to his ability to knock down the long-range shot, canning 9-of-16 (.563) over in that span. Against Harvard on Jan. 7, he popped a season-high three treys in just four tries as he racked up 12 points, then followed that up by draining his only long-range shot while scoring 10 points in the return trip to Harvard on Jan. 21. He is shooting exactly 50 percent (12-of-24) from behind the arc.
Boudreaux Boudreaux Golly
This note simply won't get old. Double the name for Evan Boudreaux double-doubles. The sophomore posted 15 points and 14 rebounds against Harvard on Jan. 7 for his Ivy League-best seventh double-double of the season and 17th of his career. His 10 last year were the most by a Dartmouth player in 23 years, and the most in a career over the last 25 years is 21 by Ian McGinnis '01.
Dickinson Getting Offensive
Senior Wesley Dickinson showed off his scoring skills at Harvard on Jan. 21, producing 12 points — a career high against a Division I team. He also has proven his prowess on the offensive glass, as 20 of his 33 rebounds reined in have given Dartmouth a second chance to score, the third most on the team.
Helping Out
Dartmouth may be last in the league in assists per game, but Brendan Barry tried to turn the tide in that category by dishing out six helpers at Harvard. Not only is that a personal best this season, but it also matches the most by any player this season; Mike Fleming collected a career-high six dimes at Boston College back on Dec. 3.
Season of Threes
Not three-pointers so much as wins and losses. First, Dartmouth lost its first nine games (three squared), then won its next three. Now the Big Green are on a three-game slide, so a win against Columbia should trigger at least a three-game win streak, right? Yes, this note is almost completely without worth.
Turnover Limit
Turnovers can make or break a game, and Dartmouth is no exception to that. In the Big Green's three victories this year, they have coughed the ball up an average of 10.7 times. In the 12 losses, that number jumps to 15.9. When turning it over less than 15 times, Dartmouth is 3-3. At least 15? 0-9.
Don't Call Me a Jinx
My writing about senior Mike Fleming making all 14 of his free throw attempts this year — in each of the last two versions of notes — has not caused his streak to end, so I am not a jinx. Seven of the Big Green's top eight scorers are all shooting at least 73 percent at the charity stripe, and the team percentage of 74.5 ranks second in the Ivy League.
