HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's tennis swept Binghamton, 7-0, at the Boss Tennis Center on Friday evening. The Big Green improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Bearcats are now 0-3.
“I thought the guys did a very good job relaxing and trusting their games once they won the first sets in singles tonight,” head coach Chris Drake said. “They finished stronger and at a better level than at the beginning, which is positive. When we trust our games and allow ourselves to play with confidence, the odds greatly improve that we will play well.”
Wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions easily gave the first point to Dartmouth. At the No. 2 spot, senior Max Schmidt and freshman David Horneffer had a 6-3 victory over Frenk Kote and Tiago Lourenco, while junior Ciro Riccardi and freshman Charlie Broom had a 6-1 defeat of Thomas Caputo and Josh Druger at No. 3. At the No. 1 position, senior George Wall and junior Max Fliegner added a slightly tougher 7-5 victory for good measure.
The Big Green did not have to go to a third set in any of their six singles matches. Playing at the No. 1 spot for the first time in his career, Riccardi had a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ludovico Cestarollo. Fliegner, Horneffer, Broom and Wall all picked up their second victories of the night, while sophomore Eddie Grabill got one of his own at the No. 6 position, defeating Kote, 6-4, 6-1.
Dartmouth will host South Carolina at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN).
