Dartmouth Claims Third at Vermont Show to Start Weekend

Big Green still atop regional standings after third-place finish.

WILLISTON, Vt. - The Dartmouth equestrian team traveled to Vermont on Saturday for the second show of the season, but its first of the weekend as it hosts on Sunday at Morton Farm

The Big Green posted a strong showing, claiming third out of 11 teams with UVM in first place and New Hampshire taking second. Despite the result, Dartmouth is still leading the region.

Team captain Olivia Champ opened with a beautiful ride in her Open Fences class, attaining the first-place spot. Freshman Tori Bergstein showed an outstanding performance and won her Novice Fences class. Sophomores Emily Slusher and Shira Hornstein continued holding back competition, placing second in Intermediate Fences and Novice Fences, respectively.

Later in the afternoon, Champ had another great ride with a second-place finish in Open Flat and teammate Claire Azar also claimed third in the same class. Co-captain Erin McCarthy Keeler had a strong finish with a third-place finish in Intermediate Flat.

The story of the season remained intact as Sophia Kocher won her first Novice Flat class to continue her stretch of undefeated performances.

Freshman Sabrina Jain also had a fantastic ride, claiming first in her Novice Flat class. Bergstein had another strong performance following her win from earlier in the day and got second place in Novice Flat. In the Advanced Walk Trot Canter division, sophomore Teaghan Callaway took second. Following her in Beginning Walk Trot Canter, freshman Sophia Arana had a second-place finish in her IHSA showing debut.
