Dartmouth Secures First Ivy League Win Over Penn

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's soccer team secured its first Ivy League win of the season Saturday night over Penn, defeating the Quakers 3-1 on Burnham Field. Sophomore Tiger Graham scored two goals, while sophomore Kota Sakurai picked up his first career goal.

Dartmouth (4-4-4, 1-0-2 Ivy) was outshot by Penn (2-4-4, 0-3-0 Ivy) 12-11, but the Big Green held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Penn finished with five corner kicks for the match compared to Dartmouth's two.

Penn began the match with two shots that were blocked by the Dartmouth defense. The Big Green raced to the other side of the field and found space to create. In the 23rd minute, Dawson McCartney sent a cross in front of the goal and Graham charged to the ball and headed home the first goal to make it 1-0. That score would hold for the remainder of the half.

Graham would get his second goal of the game in the 56th minute. This time Noah Paravicini sent a shot that deflected off the keeper into the feet of Graham who found the back of the net to give the Big Green a 2-0 lead.

Minutes later in the 66th minute, Dartmouth used some smooth passes and Jonny Nierenberg set up Sakurai for his first career goal from 18 yards out to bring the Dartmouth advantage to 3-0.

Penn scored in the 88th minute on a penalty kick to bring the score to its final.

Dartmouth plays its final non-conference regular season game next, they take on Lehigh on Burnham Field at 6 p.m.
