HANOVER, N.H. – Taking on the top team in the Patriot League Tuesday night on Burnham Field, the Dartmouth men's soccer team earned a scoreless draw in a defensive minded match.
Dartmouth is now 4-4-5 on the season, while Lehigh goes to 7-5-2. Freshman goalkeeper
Alex Budnik got his first career start and came away with five saves, picking up the shutout.
The Big Green got a tremendous defensive effort from
Jordan McNair,
Ohad Yahalom,
Garrett Scott,
Jordan Bailon,
Mothibi Penn-Kekana and
Steven Hadley as that group staved off a number of shots by the Mountain Hawks, led by Mark Forrest.
Dartmouth opened the second half with shots on goal by
Jesse Scanlon, Scott and
Babacar Gadiaga that were all saved.
Kota Sakurai's shot in the 87th minute was saved keeping it scoreless. Lehigh thought they had it won in the closing seconds of regulation when a bicycle kick by Tommy Dokho went in, but was whistled offsides.
After a defensive struggle in the first overtime, Budnik saved the game with a diving stop in the first minute of the second OT. Dartmouth and Lehigh each had one more shot but could not connect as time expired.
The Big Green travel to Columbia to face the Lions on Friday night at 5 p.m. in a game that will be nationally televised on ENSPU.
