HANOVER, N.H. – After a 3-1 loss to Cornell the day before, the Dartmouth volleyball team rebounded by taking down Columbia in straight sets (25-13, 25-12, 28-26) at Leede Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green improved to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in Ivy League play, while the Lions fell to 9-11 and 3-7.

Junior
Carly Tower led the team with a .667 hitting percentage, six blocks and 12 points, while freshman
Nicole Liddle was right behind with 11 points from nine kills, 10 digs and two block assists. Junior
Corinne Cox had 17 assists and senior
Zoe Leonard had 16 digs.
Â
"Obviously, we played a much better game today than yesterday," head coach
Gilad Doron said. "I thought we blocked really well. Zoe played really good defense today and it was good to see Carly play as well as she did. Nicole had her best game since before Harvard and Francesca really set the tone with her five blocks. There were a lot of positive performances by different players and it was good to get a win at home."
Â
The Big Green and the Lions were right there with each other in the first set until kills by junior
Abby Kott, sophomore
Elise Petit and Liddle and four Columbia errors gave Dartmouth some breathing room (17-9). An 8-4 Green rally gave set one to Dartmouth (25-13).
Â
The home team carried the momentum from the first set into the second and soon had a 6-2 advantage following kills by Liddle, Cox, Kott and Tower. Dartmouth got further and further ahead and, with a 17-9 edge, got closer to victory thanks to a few too many Lion errors (22-9). Columbia got a few points closer but could not catch up in time (25-12).
Â
Four errors and an ace by Leonard gave the Big Green a 5-0 lead to start the third set. They remained comfortably ahead (15-11) until eight straight points for the Lions put the visitors ahead for the first time by a score of 19-15. A 7-2 Dartmouth rally gave the Big Green a one-point lead (22-21), but Columbia did not give in. The teams tied five times, but one more Lion error and a kill by Petit ended the match (28-26).
Â
Dartmouth will play its final non-conference match on Tuesday when it heads to Rhode Island to take on Bryant.
