HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Princeton (18-25, 16-25, 17-25) at Leede Arena on Friday evening. The Big Green dipped to 5-9 and 1-3 in Ivy League play, while the Tigers improved to 11-4 and 4-0.
Â
Sophomore
Elise Petit led with nine kills, a .333 hitting percentage and 9.5 points, while junior
Corinne Cox was first with 10 assists and senior
Zoe Leonard had 12 digs.
Â
"We definitely have to play better tomorrow," head coach
Gilad Doron said. "Elise did a decent job defensively, but Princeton showed us that they are the best in the conference. They were very sharp from the first point, and I thought that our players had too much energy to start and not enough later on. I give a ton of credit to Princeton. We have to get better and get healthier and we have to fight a lot harder against Penn tomorrow."
Â
The score was close at the start of the first set and the teams traded points until four in a row for the Tigers gave them a 9-6 lead. Princeton pulled further ahead until the score was 23-14, but Dartmouth got a few more points on the board thanks to some errors by the visitors before Princeton got its final point (25-18).
Â
The Big Green came out strong in set two and, following three Tiger errors and kills by Petit and freshman
Francesca Meldrum, had a 7-4 edge. The visitors got back in the game and the teams went back and forth, staying within a few points of each other. With the Tigers ahead, 14-12, an 11-4 run at the end made it a 2-0 match (25-16).
Â
Princeton won the first seven points of the third and carried that lead from start to finish. Trailing by a score of 23-10, Dartmouth came alive, going on a 7-1 run thanks to four errors by the Tigers and kills by freshman
Emma Moffet and sophomore
Olympia Nagel-Caland. One more kill for Princeton ended the match (25-17).
Â
The Big Green will return to the court on Saturday against Penn.
