HANOVER, N.H. —
Alex Kirk, the Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Dartmouth Women's Golf, announced that he has two recruits in the Class of 2022 —
Kristen Chen and
Kaitlyn Lees.
"Both of these players will have an immediate impact on the Big Green lineup," Kirk said. "Each one is tournament seasoned and has experienced great success on the golf course. They will be a big part of helping the program strive for our ultimate goal of winning an Ivy League Championship."
Chen, a native of Thousand Oaks, California, comes to Hanover following an impressive prep career at Westlake High School where she earned four letters and three team MVP honors, plus captained the squad her final two years. While earning Marmonte League MVP honors as a junior, Chen led the Warriors to their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section championship that same year. As a senior, she qualified for the CIF State Championship at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, placing 10th out of 54 golfers, and was named the Ventura County Star's Girls Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Lees, meanwhile, attended the all-girls Agnes Irwin School while growing up in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, garnering the school's Award for Excellence in Golf and a spot on the Inter-Academic League First Team for varsity golf for six straight years. A three-time Pennsylvania State Junior Champion, Lees was also the 2015 Philadelphia Junior Tour Player of the Year for girls 16-18 and earned American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Trans-Scholastic All-America honorable mention the following two years. After finishing in the top six in seven AJGA events over the past four years, she capped her prep career this past spring as the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association Girls Golf Tournament champion.
The golf team begins its fall season by hosting the Dartmouth Invitational over the weekend of Sept. 15-16 at Hanover Country Club.
