HANOVER, N.H. –Two first-half goals proved to be the difference in the Dartmouth women's soccer team's season-opening victory over visiting Quinnipiac Friday night at Burnham Field.

Junior
Zoe Enright and senior
Remy Borinsky helped propel the Big Green (1-0-0) to the 2-0 win over the Bobcats (1-2-0) with the tallies in the 13th and 32nd minutes, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper
Mariel Gordon posted her first shutout of the season, finishing the night with four saves.
Â
"I'm very pleased with how we started the season tonight," said head coach
Ron Rainey. "We still have a lot to work on, but it was great to see the things that we implemented in the 10 days of preseason come out in our play tonight. This was our first test of the season, but there was a lot of things we can build on."
Â
Dartmouth started the game with an up-tempo pace and controlled the possession throughout. Enright connected for the Big Green's first goal of the season from 20 yards out on an assist from
Hayley Soriano in the 13th minute to give the home team an early 1-0 advantage.
Â
A Quinnipiac hand ball in front of the Bobcat net in the 32nd minute proved to be costly as it set up a penalty kick for the Big Green. Borinsky took the shot and put a charge to the top left of the goal past the diving keeper to give Dartmouth the 2-0 lead.
Â
Dartmouth took control and defense was the key for the remainder of the game as the Bobcats did not have many scoring opportunities in the second half.

The Big Green are back in action in the Ocean State as they take on Rhode Island on Sunday at the URI Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.
