QUECHEE, Vt. — Sophomores
Sam Ohno and
Jason Liu both finished the second and final round of the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge with a 1-under 71 to help boost host Dartmouth three places in the standings into sixth overall. Bucknell took home the team title thanks to carding a 7-under 281 today to jump over five teams and finish with a two-round total of 583 (+7), five strokes ahead of Cornell and Princeton.
In the individual standings, the 36 holes concluded with a four-way tie for first at 4-under par on the 6,671-yard, par-72 Lakeland course. But the tie was resolved rather quickly in a playoff as Brown's Drew Powell bested Connor O'Brien and Chris Tanabe of Bucknell, along with Connor Schmidt of Drexel by sinking a birdie on the first hole to claim medalist honors.
Liu was the Big Green's low scorer over the two rounds, producing a 78-71—149 (+5) to tie for 15th, while Ohno was merely a stroke back with a 79-71—150 (+6) in a tie for 21st with senior
John Lazor. After playing a birdie-free round on Saturday, Ohno sank six in the second round to help him finish at 1-under on the day. Only a double-bogey on his final hole on 9 kept him from breaking 70 on this day.
Like Ohno, Liu started on the 10th hole and sank three birdies over his first nine holes. After adding another on the second to push him to 4-under after 11, he had a hiccup on five and six that dropped him back to 1-under. But he recovered on his final three, making par on each one.
While Lazor, yesterday's leader for the Big Green, ended the round with a 76 (+4), freshman
Mark Turner rebounded from a rough first day to make par on 14 of the 18 holes with a birdie to card a 3-over 75. That helped Dartmouth finish the round with a 293 (+5) and the tournament with an even 600 (+24), just one stroke behind Harvard.
Both senior
Reed Russ and junior
Will Bednarz dropped four birdies today while playing as individuals, but ended the day with a 77 (+5).
Dartmouth will be back in action on the first two days of October when the Big Green competes at the Firestone Invitational hosted by Akron.
