STORRS, Conn. – A UConn goal in the 79th minute proved to be the difference as the Dartmouth men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss Saturday night at Joseph J. Marrone Field in Storrs, Connecticut. It was the final road game before the Big Green host their home-opener on Tuesday.
The Big Green (0-3-0) were outshot, 14-7, by the Huskies (3-2-0) and 8-3 on goal. UConn finished the match with a firm advantage in corner kicks with six compared to Dartmouth's zero. Sophomore goalkeeper
Christopher Palacios tied his career high with seven saves on the night.
It was a defensive struggle in the first half with neither team able to create much on offense. UConn had five shots in the half with one on goal while Dartmouth only had one shot by senior

Both sides entered the second half with a more offensive mindset. Senior

Matthew Ranieri each had shots that missed the target early in the half.
UConn broke the scoreless tie in the 79th minute when Abdou Mbacke Thiam headed one to the back of the net off a cross from Dayonn Harris to make it 1-0 Huskies.

Jesse Scanlon both had potential game tying shots that were saved in the final minutes of the match. A last-ditch effort by senior
Jonny Nierenberg in the closing seconds sailed high, sending the Big Green back to Hanover with the loss.
Dartmouth is set to host Boston University on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the teams' long-awaited home opener at Burnham Field.
