Dartmouthsports.com Athletes of the Week - Dainton & Knight
1/17/2019 10:21:00 AM | Men's Basketball, Women's Track & Field, Athletics
After a very busy month of December, January has started out with very few home games. The games that have been played are, hopefully, harbingers of the season to come. The men's basketball team set the court on fire, earning an Ivy-opening win over defending champion Harvard with 20 points from sophomore Chris Knight. Freshman Zoe Dainton kicked off 2019, winning the high jump at the Dartmouth Relays, helping the women to a win for the 9th straight year.Â
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Chris Knight, So., Madison, Wis., F, Men's Basketball
Sophomore Chris Knight led Dartmouth to its first win in an Ivy League opener in a dozen years, 81-63, with a game-high 20 points against the preseason favorite, Harvard, on Jan. 12. His steady presence in the lane impacted the game at both ends of the court as he also grabbed four rebounds and blocked three shots, plus assisted on three buckets. In the middle of the first-half, he jump-started the offense with a bucket in the lane and a 3-pointer to give the Green an 18-17 lead. Shortly thereafter, Dartmouth went on a 13-0 run and led by double digits for all but 26 seconds of the final 24-plus minutes. Knight leads the Big Green in scoring (15.6 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocked shots (1.5 per game), all of which rank among the top five in the Ivy League.Â
