THIS WEEKEND
•   The Dartmouth men's hockey team returns home after a five-game road trip to play its first games at Thompson Arena in 2019.
•   St. Lawrence is Friday's opponent, while No. 10 Clarkson makes its way to Hanover for the Saturday night contest.
LAST TIME OUT
•   The Big Green played to a weekend split on the Central-New York trip to Colgate and Cornell.
•   Dartmouth defeated Colgate, 1-0, on Friday night before falling to the 15th-ranked Big Red the next night in snowy Ithaca.
•   The winter storm that blanketed the northeast in nearly a foot of snow caused Dartmouth to be stranded in Ithaca for two more nights, not leaving for its return home until Monday morning.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
•   St. Lawrence is in the midst of a challenging season with a 3-18-1 overall record and a 1-8-1 mark in ECAC Hockey and is currently in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.
•   The three league points have the Saints in last place in the standings, the same place they finished in 2017-18.
•   Senior Michael Ederer and junior Carson Gicewicz are tied for the team lead with nine points. Cade Gleekel leads the group with five goals, while four players have four.
•   The Saints have used three goalies this season with Arthur Brey seeing the most action and junior Daniel Mannella posting the best stats (.914, 3.72). All three netminders have just one win this year.
•   Clarkson comes into the weekend with a 16-6-0 overall record and a 7-3-0 mark in league games, giving the team 14 points, one more than Dartmouth (13). That is all thanks in large part to the eight-game win streak the team is currently riding.
•   Junior Nico Sturm is one of the best two-way players in the nation and leads the team with 26 points. He is also the Golden Knights' leader in both goals (11) and assists (15).
•   Haralds Egle is second in all areas of scoring (10-14-24).
•   Jake Kielly continues to be one of the best goalies in not just ECAC Hockey, but also the country. He boasts a 1.82 goals against average to go along with a .931 save percentage, figures that both rank in the top-10 nationally.
AGAINST THE NORTH COUNTRY
•   Dartmouth swept St. Lawrence and Clarkson during the 2017-18 regular season for the first time in program history, winning all four games against the teams from the North Country.
•   The Big Green defeated both SLU and Clarkson by identical 3-2 scores in mid-January to mark just the second time ever that they had gone to the North Country and earned four points (2013-14).
•   In that road win in Potsdam, the Golden Knights were ranked No. 2 in the nation, marking the second time in 2017-18 that Dartmouth had knocked off a team ranked second in the national polls at the time with both coming on the road (at Denver, 12.16.17 | 5-4). The home win against Clarkson came with the visiting team ranked No. 7 in the polls and via a third-period score from
Cam Strong, giving Koenig Family Head Coach
Bob Gaudet '81 the 300th win in his Dartmouth career.
•   The Big Green would lose a game to the Saints, though, as the two met in the first round of the ECAC Hockey Championship. The teams would exchange wins with Dartmouth taking the first and third games by 2-1 scores with St. Lawrence earning a 4-2 victory in the second.
•  Â
Corey Kalk '18 picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season in the third period, netting the game winner just over three minutes into the final frame to break the 1-1 tie and send his team on to the next round.
SHUTOUTS!
•   The 1-0 win at Colgate was the third shutout of the season for goaltender
Adrian Clark and the fourth of his career.
•   For Clark, it was also the second straight shutout after a 5-0 win last Saturday night at Princeton. The last time Dartmouth — and a Big Green netminder — posted shutouts in consecutive games was March 13-14, 2004, when Dan Yacey helped his team to 6-0 and 1-0 wins in Games 2 and 3 of a home quarterfinal series against Rensselaer.
•   The last time Dartmouth had shutouts in back-to-back road games was 1935 when it blanked Boston College, 3-0, and Northeastern, 7-0, on Dec. 20-21.
•   That year was also the last time the Green and White posted three shutouts on the road in a season, a figure they have matched this year with wins at Yale (3-0), Princeton (5-0) and Colgate (1-0). The last shutout in that '35-36 season was on Mar. 3 at Brown (5-0).
•   Dartmouth's last four shutouts have all come on the road after a 0-0 draw last season at Quinnipiac. The most recent shutout in Hanover was Jan. 6, 2017 against Princeton (5-0 |
Devin Buffalo).
•   Charles Grant '16 was the last Dartmouth goalie with three in a season (3 in 2015-16), while classmate James Kruger '16 also accomplished the feat the year before.
WINNERS!
•   The lone goal in that Colgate win came off the stick of senior
Alex Jasiek.
•   The St. Louis native slipped a shot from below the dot between the pads of Colgate netminder Mitch Benson at the 11:42 mark of the third period.
•   For Jasiek, it was not only his sixth of the season, but also his second game-winning goal in as many games, having also scored the winner at Princeton the weekend before.
•   He had one in each of his first three seasons, making the two in the seven-day span a new career high.
A FIRST!
•   In his 53rd-career game, sophomore defender
Brendan Demler scored his first career goal.
•   Demler found the back of the net with Clark en route to the bench during a delayed penalty, dropping low into the zone and potting the rebound of a
Harrison Markell point shot.
•   After a lengthy span between goals from defensemen, Demler became the fourth Dartmouth d-man to find the back of the net this season.
 A 1-0 GAME
•   Prior to last Friday's contest at Colgate, the last time Dartmouth had won a game by that score was Feb. 28, 2014.
•   On a night when No. 11 Cornell's Andy Iles broke the program's all-time saves record, the story of the game was happening at the other end of the ice. Charles Grant's second career shutout came via 36 saves and gave the Big Green their first in Ithaca since Jan. 23, 1960 (12-0), a span of more than 54 years.
•   The lone goal that night was scored by Tyler Sikura '15 just 1:54 into the second period.
•   In total, Dartmouth has won a 1-0 game on 14 occasions with several long gaps between occurrences.
