The Big Green and Hawks were even with 11 shots
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Hartford at Burnham Field on Tuesday in its final non-conference match of the season. Aitor Elena scored in the 50th minute to lift the Hawks to the victory.
The Big Green fall to 5-6-1 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 8-3-4. It was an evenly matched game as both teams had 11 shots with six on goal and three corner kicks.
Senior Henry Stusnick made his first start of the season in goal and finished with five saves. Sophomore Matt Pickering also made his first appearance of the year.
Hartford had the advantage in shots over the first 32 minutes with five compared to one for the Big Green. Dartmouth flipped the script over the final 13 minutes and outshot the Hawks, 4-0, to even the shooting number at five for the half.
After consecutive missed headers by Clayton Molter, Hartford got on the board in the 50th minute. Connor Aksoz sent a free kick to the head of Elena who headed home the game winner.
Molter had one more shot that was saved in the 53rd minute. Matthew Ranieri and Alex Van Schalkwyk each had scoring opportunities down the stretch, but both shots were saved.
Dartmouth starts their final four conference matches of the season beginning with a home match against Columbia on Saturday at 7 p.m.
