ALBANY, N.Y. – After a six-point weekend, Dartmouth sophomore
Drew O'Connor has been named the ECAC Hockey Men's Player of the Week.
Â
O'Connor not only tied for the ECAC Hockey lead in scoring, his six points were also the most amongst all Division I players for last week's games. The winger scored three points in both of the Big Green's road wins over the weekend, scoring once and dishing out a pair of assists against Yale on Friday and netting two goals and adding a helper Saturday night at Brown.
Â
For O'Connor, this is the first Player of the Week honor from ECAC Hockey after being named the league's top rookie in a week's time on three occasions last year, more than any other conference freshman.
Â
The New Jersey native came into the weekend with just three points (0-3-3) this season, but managed to triple that total in just the two games of the road swing. That six-point weekend now brings his season total to nine (3-6-9) to lead the Big Green.
Â
O'Connor had a three-point night in his first career game in last year's opener before matching that single-game career high in each outing this past weekend. As a rookie in 2018-19, O'Connor had nine assists in 34 games, a figure he's already two-thirds of the way to reaching in just six games this season.
Â
In addition to his six points, O'Connor's three goals this weekend were the most of any player in the nation from Thursday on. In 40 career games, O'Connor has amassed an impressive 20 goals.
Â
There is now a two-weekend break for Dartmouth exams and Thanksgiving. The team is back in action at home on Friday, Dec. 6 against Colgate and again the following night against Cornell. Those two games will serve as the collection dates for the annual CHaD Toy Drive. More information regarding the event will be available on DartmouthSports.com in the next few days.
