HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth sophomore
Drew O'Connor was named the First Star of the Week for men's hockey as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
It's the third honor in just the last two days for the winger from Chatham, New Jersey, as he was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week as well as the DartmouthSports.com Male Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Â
Joining O'Connor on the NCAA's weekly honor roll were a pair of goalies: North Dakota's Adam Scheel earned the No. 2 star with John Lethemon of Michigan State earning the No. 3 star.
Â
The trio of accolades follows a weekend in which O'Connor led the nation with six points and three goals in a pair of road wins for the Big Green at Yale (4-3) and Brown (4-1). In each of those games, O'Connor registered a trio of points to match his career high.
Â
Against the Bulldogs in New Haven, he notched his first goal of the season before picking up a pair of assists as the contest went on, including setting up
Will Graber for the game winner with just 1:25 left in regulation.
Â
The following night, O'Connor scored the eventual game winner on the power play late in the first period and would add another helper and an empty netter in the final seconds to seal the four-point weekend for the Big Green and a six-point (3-3-6) road trip for himself.
Â
This is the first time a Dartmouth player has earned one of the three weekly stars from the NCAA since Nick Bligh '16 was named the third star after helping Dartmouth win the Ledyard Classic in the first week of January 2016.
Â
There is now a two-weekend break for Dartmouth exams and Thanksgiving. The team is back in action at home on Friday, Dec. 6 against Colgate and again the following night against Cornell. Those two games will serve as the collection dates for the annual CHaD Toy Drive. More information regarding the event will be available on DartmouthSports.com in the next few days.
