HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team played Bentley to 2-2 tie Thursday night at Thompson Arena in the final home game of the first half of the season for the Big Green.
Â
Sophomores
Jeff Losurdo and
Sam Hesler each scored for the home team in the game, while netminder
Adrian Clark finished the game with 27 saves in 65 minutes.
Â
For Losurdo, it was the second straight game in which he opened the scoring early on with a power-play goal, giving Dartmouth (4-3-2) the 1-0 lead less than nine minutes in.
Â
Hesler scored the first goal of his career at the 10:01 mark of the second period, banging in a loose puck after a great zone entry and pass from freshman defenseman
Tanner Palocsik, his second helper of the game.
Â
Hesler actually posted his first career multi-point game as he picked up an assist on the Losurdo goal as well. The sophomore has five career points with three coming against the Falcons after registering his first career assist last season at Bentley.
Â
The visitors got the next two goals, including the tying mark with just 2:05 left in regulation on the power play. Â Will Garin answered the Hesler marker just over a minute later in the middle stanza before Jonathan Desbiens potted the equalizer on another man-advantage in the final minutes.
Â
In total, 16 penalties were called in the, resulting in 14 power plays with Bentley having eight and scoring twice. Dartmouth finished 1-for-6 on the power play.
Â
"We worked really hard tonight, but the game was without a ton of flow because both teams were on special teams so much," Koenig Family Head Coach
Bob Gaudet '81 said. "When you play in a game like that, you know you're going to have to really grind it out to get a result, especially against a good team like Bentley."
Â
Clark stopped 27 shots, including 21 in the opening period, while allowing just the two goals on 12 Falcon shots on goal with the extra skater. Bentley goaltender Aidan Pelino made 29 saves at the other end as the two teams played to a draw for the second time in as many years.
Â
The Big Green travel to Boston next to take on No. 12 Northeastern Saturday at 4 p.m. in a game carried live on NESN. It marks the first game between the two teams in Boston since December 1999.
