NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three goals scored in the final 22 minutes gave Yale a 3-1 victory over Dartmouth at Ingalls Rink on Saturday.
After a two-point performance against Brown the night before, sophomore
Gabby Billing was back on the scoresheet and was credited with the Big Green's lone goal. Freshmen
Catherine Trevors and
CC Bowlby also ended up with a point apiece.
Rookie netminder
Hannah Humphreys played all 60 minutes and made some great saves, totaling 24 in all.
Dartmouth (3-7-2, 1-4-2) led in shots from start to finish of the first period but was not able to get past goalie Tera Hofmann until (almost) the last second. With 3.3 ticks remaining, a breakaway opportunity for Bowlby and a shot by Trevors resulted in a goal by Billing.
Yale (7-6-0, 4-4-0) returned to the ice for the second period a different team: eight of the 10 shots on goal taken in the first 10 minutes were by the Bulldogs. The home team continued peppering Humphreys with shots until one by Rebecca Vanstone got past her on the power play at 18:36.
The teams remained tied well into the third period, but a snipe by Grace Lee at 13:30 gave Yale its first lead of the game. Dartmouth continued to have some good chances, but after pulling Humphreys, Yale scored an empty netter with 29 seconds remaining to all but end of the game.
The Bulldogs had a 27-22 shot advantage and went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Dartmouth went 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
The Big Green will play one last game in 2019, taking on Franklin Pierce at home on Friday, Dec. 13.
