LEBANON, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team made its annual visit to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) on Monday morning to deliver donations from the team's toy drive this past weekend.
Â
Thanks to the generous donations made by fans during games on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday's "Skate with the Big Green," the team were once again able to make Monday's visit a special one.
Â
"This is my fourth trip to CHaD between our toy drive and a visit in the summer with some of our other teams and it's always a great experience for us," team captain
Brendan Demler said. "We know how much it means to the people at the hospital for us to come and we know how important a tradition it is for our program. The hockey team has been visiting CHaD for years, so we know that when we go we're part of a history of Big Green players hopefully making an impact on these kids."
Â
The Big Green spent the morning visiting rooms and handing out toys, playing games with kids and visiting with parents. Others made the trip to the pediatrics wing of the hospital to color, make ornaments and play games with children and parents waiting for their appointments.
Â
"It's great for us to go and we really enjoy giving back to the community that shows us so much love," alternate captain
Cam Strong said. "But we also realize that we're just the messengers today and that all these great toys, books and games are provided by others in the community. We can't thank them enough for all the support they provide us every weekend, but especially when we host our donation events."
Â
Once again, the entire Dartmouth men's hockey team would like to thank those fans whose donations made Monday's trip an incredible experience. Additionally, a very big thank you to the members of CHaD's Child Life Department who facilitate the team's visit every year and make it so easy and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Â
The Big Green will head back to the ice for one more time at home before the winter break, playing host to Bentley on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
