Lenart and Luce set career highs in first Ivy League win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Dartmouth outscored Brown, 24-2, in the final seven minutes of the fourth quarter to come away with an 81-61 victory at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Big Green, (8-8, 1-2 Ivy) secured its first Ivy League win of the season, while the Bears (9-10, 1-2 Ivy) fall below .500.

Paula Lenart racked up the rebounds with a career-high 17 to go along with 14 points on 6-10 shooting. Anna Luce scored a career-high 22 points on 9-12 shooting in 21 minutes off the bench. Isalys Quinones was also in double figures with 13 points and six rebounds, while Cy Lippold had 12 points and seven assists. Elle Louie had a strong game as well with six points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

"We wanted to blow it open and build a lead," said Belle Koclanes, the Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach of Women's Basketball. "Four players scored in double digits, which we are always happy about. (Paula Lenart) had 17 rebounds, nine offensive, and Elle Louie had ten boards with five offensive and Anna Luce had a great game off the bench. But it was a collective defensive effort that really won us the game tonight."

It took almost three minutes for the Big Green to get on the board. Louie's 3-pointer with 7:10 in the first put the Big Green ahead, 3-2. Brown retook the lead over the next few minutes, but back-to-back triples by Lippold and Quinones put the Big Green back on top, 11-8, with 3:46 on the clock. The Bears closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 15-11 advantage into the second. Nine of the 11 points in the quarter were from beyond the arch.

The pace quickened in the second. After Brown extended its lead to six early in the quarter, Lenart fought for a tough basket underneath and Asha Taylor nailed a three to make it a one-point game. Threes continued to be the story as Louie and Annie McKenna hit long balls to tie the game at 22 with 5:14 to go until the half. Lippold kept it going with another triple, igniting a 7-0 run, giving the Big Green a 29-24 advantage with 3:39 on the clock. Luce scored six points in the final 3:12 of the half as both sides traded baskets, bringing her total up to 10, as the Bears held a slim 36-35 lead at the half.

There was no room to breathe in the third for either team. A layup from Luce put the Big Green ahead by one momentarily, but Brown retook the lead with a 4-0 run. The Bears held onto a small advantage until 3:42 left in the quarter when Lippold hit a mid-range jumper to put Dartmouth ahead, 47-46. In the final second of the quarter, Quinones was fouled taking a three and hit all her shots at the line to give the Big Green a 57-54 lead at the end of three.

Dartmouth ran away from the Bears in the fourth quarter. Katie Douglas drilled a 3-pointer with 7:04 on the clock, setting fire to a 21-0 run over the next six minutes where Quinones scored seven points. All-in-all, the Big Green outscored the Bears 24-2 to end the game and Luce set her career high with an and-one layup with 32 seconds left.

Dartmouth is right back at it at Yale to finish its weekend on the road on Saturday from the John J. Lee Amphitheater at 6 p.m.
