PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Dartmouth held Brown to just two field goals in the final nine-plus minutes, but the Bears converted 14 free throws in that span to fend off the Big Green at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday evening, 68-65. Brandon Anderson had 21 points to lead Brown (17-9, 5-5 Ivy) to the series sweep, while junior
James Foye posted career highs with 25 points and seven 3-pointers for Dartmouth (11-15, 2-8 Ivy).
The Big Green led by a 48-44 margin with just over 13 minutes to play after Foye ripped the nets for one of his long balls. But the Bears got out their defensive claws and held Dartmouth to four points over the next nine minutes while they scored 15 points of their own. Anderson drove for a layup for a 50-48 Brown lead, junior Brendan knotted the score with a tip-in of his own miss at the rim. But Anderson was fouled with 8:31 to play by Foye — his fourth — and hit a pair of foul shots to put the Bears on top for good.
When Big Green forward
Chris Knight took a seat with his fourth foul and still seven minutes left, Brown went into the paint for their points as Tamenang Choh scored the last of his 14 points in the lane. Obi Okolie followed with another bucket at the rim to give Brown its largest lead of the night at 59-52 with five minutes on the clock.
Dartmouth would not relent, however, as Knight returned to the floor and set up sophomore
Aaryn Rai under the basket for a layup with just under four minutes showing. The only point scored for the next two and a half minutes came on an Anderson free throw, but the Big Green finally cut into the deficit further on senior
Guilien Smith's layup while getting fouled with 1:19 to go.
His free throw was off the mark, but junior
Will Emery batted the rebound out to the perimeter, and Foye made the hustle count by knocking down another trifecta to suddenly make it a one-point game. But even though Foye popped his last two threes in the final 10 seconds, Brown held on by converting 8-of-10 at the foul line, six of those courtesy of Anderson, who finished 10-of-12 on his freebies.
Foye ended the night 7-of-10 from the perimeter and 9-of-14 overall in 34 minutes, while Knight was 6-of-8 for 12 points and Barry added 10. Rai led the Big Green rebounding efforts with nine boards, but Brown ended the night with a 36-31 edge on the glass.
Okolie matched Choh with 14 points, but the latter also had 11 rebounds for a double-double. As a team, Brown was 20-of-45 (.444) from the floor and an efficient 6-of-11 (.545) from long range. The big advantage came at the charity stripe as the Bears sank 22-of-27 (.815) compared to just 5-of-8 (.625) for the Big Green.
The first half featured five lead changes and four ties, but Dartmouth led by seven, 27-20, when Brown ripped off 11 straight points with the last three on a fast-break dunk by Choh who made it three points with the foul. Foye brought the Big Green within one at the break, 31-30, with his second 3-pointer of the night.
Dartmouth stormed out of the locker room to start the second stanza with an 11-2 run as Barry scored the last six on a long-distance shot and three the hard way. The Bears scored the next seven, and the Big Green lead remained between one and four points until Chris Sullivan tied the game at 48 with a layup to get the Brown stretch run started in earnest.
The Big Green return home for their final two Ivy League games next weekend when they host Princeton (15-8, 7-3 Ivy) and Penn (16-10, 4-6 Ivy) on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman and Eric Berry calling the action. Fans can also listen to the contests locally on KOOL FM (106.7 FM in Hanover, 96.3 FM in Walpole and 106.5 FM in Keene) or online at

Notes: Five of Dartmouth's eight league losses have been by three points or fewer, and another was by five … only league-leading Yale has had a double-digit lead on the Big Green at any time in conference play this season … Barry made all three of his free throws to extend his streak to 21 consecutive conversions … Smith had his streak of 27 straight foul shots — dating back two years — snapped in the second half … Foye is shooting 49.5 percent (51-of-103) from the perimeter this year and 51.0 percent (101-of-198) overall from the floor … Dartmouth and Brown had split the season series each of the previous five years, and the last seven meetings have been decided by no more than five points.
