ORLANDO, Fla. – On the first day of the UCF Invite in Orlando, Fla., the Dartmouth softball team dropped two tough games at the hands of Louisiana Tech and the tournament hosts, UCF.

Dartmouth falls to 2-5, while La. Tech improves to 15-3 and UCF brings its record to 10-5.

Vs. Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech's Krystal De La Cruz only allowed one Big Green hit in a complete game shutout as Dartmouth fell to the Bulldogs, 8-0, in six innings. De La Cruz struck out four batters and walked two, allowing just three base-runners.

Loghan Thomas reached twice for the Big Green. She had the only hit of the day with a leadoff single in the third and walked in the sixth, while
Micah Schroder also worked a free pass in the sixth.

Tech got off to a quick start with two runs coming in the first inning. With one out and a runner on first, Jazlyn Crowder singled and a run scored on an error. Crowder then advanced to second and benefited on another Dartmouth error while stealing third, allowing her to score and put the Bulldogs ahead, 2-0, after one.

Madie Augusto settled down in the circle after a tough first inning and did not give up a run for the next two. Thomas picked up the only hit of the game in the third with a leadoff single, but a strikeout and double play ended the threat from the Big Green.

The Bulldogs scored three times in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0. They did so on an RBI single, a two-RBI double and took advantage of a Dartmouth error.

Dartmouth moved its first runner into scoring position in the sixth when Schroder walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt, but a groundout ended the half-inning.

Tech plated two more runs in the home half of the sixth, putting the run rule in place. The Bulldogs got their first two runners on base and both runs scored, ending the game. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â

At UCF
Playing another strong team at their home field, Dartmouth suffered a 10-0 loss in five innings at the hands of UCF in its second game of the day.

Sophie Ausmus each had a hit for the Big Green.

Dartmouth looked to be off to a promising start. The Big Green put runners on second and third in the first after Billie Mcfadyen reached on a fielder's choice, Martinelli singled and
Loghan Thomas dropped a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position with two outs. A strikeout ended the inning and Dartmouth could not bring any runs across.

UCF broke out with a five-run second inning. Erin Emmanuel hit a two-RBI double, Tamesha Glover then brought in two more with a triple and finally Cassady Brewer laced a double to drive in a run.

The Knights extended their lead to 7-0 in the third when runs came in on a passed ball and an RBI groundout. The score was brought to 10-0 in the fifth on a two-RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Dartmouth went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fifth to finish the day.

The Big Green play a single game on Saturday against Toledo at 10 a.m. on their second day of the UCF Invite.
