SORRENTO, Fla. — Dartmouth junior
Kristen Soh sank three birdies in the opening round of the Morehead State Spring Citrus Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club, carding a 2-over 74 to tie for ninth after the first round of play on Sunday. The Big Green finished the day in the middle of the pack with an 18-over 306, fifth among the nine teams competing on the par-72, 5,929-yard course.
Murray State produced the best team total on the day with a 1-under 287, 10 strokes ahead of Georgia State.
Soh played both the front and back nine at 1-over, picking up birdies on a pair of par-3 holes going out before draining one on the par-4 18th hole. She also made par of on 10 holes to go with five bogeys to complete her round.
Senior
Catharine Roddy was right with Soh through 16 holes thanks to three birdies of her own on the front nine. She came to the turn at even par and was 2-over through 16 before a double bogey set her back to a 4-over 76 on the day, leaving her in a tie for 14th in the 55-player field.
Both sophomore
Moon Cheong and freshman
Kristen Chen ended the opening round with a 78 (+6). Cheong played a strong round with a dozen pars and a birdie, but a triple-bogey on the 18th hole dropped her back into a tie for 26th. Chen, on the other hand, started slowly with a front-nine total of 5-over, but settled in on the back with a birdie and six pars.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Lees also competed for the Big Green team, just a stroke behind Cheong and Chen with a 7-over 79 with a birdie and 10 pars, including six in a row on the back nine.
Competing as individuals were junior
Maddie Nelson and sophomore
Julianne Strauch at 8-over 80, while senior
Bethany Burns rounded out the Dartmouth golfers.
Petra Duran of Georgia State and Anna Moore of Murray State finished the day tied atop the leaderboard at 2-under par (70), while Moore's teammate, Linette Holmslykke was just a stroke back.
The second round will begin on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the first Big Green golfer hitting the course at 9:15 a.m.
