Big Green Drop First Match of Spring Break to No. 41 Rice

HOUSTON, Texas – The Dartmouth women's tennis team started spring break in Texas with a 6-1 loss to No. 41 Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Big Green dipped to 3-9 overall, while the Owls improved to 8-6.
Rice wins at the No. 3 and 1 doubles positions put the home team up heading into singles. Playing at the No. 2 spot, senior Allison Chuang and junior Allison McCann's match against Victoria Smirnova and Anna Bowtell was ended early when the first point of the day was clinched.
The Owls won matches at No. 4, 1, 2 and 6 singles to take the match, but the Big Green put up a fight by sending three matches to super breaker. Junior Chuyang Guan came out on top in her match at the No. 5 spot, winning her first set against Diae El Jardi, 6-4, before dropping the second, 7-5. Guan came back stronger to take the super breaker, 1-0 (10-3).
On Wednesday, March 20, Dartmouth will face TCU.
