Cape Air Athletes of the Week - Spearman & Schroder
4/10/2019 9:25:00 AM | Men's Track & Field, Softball, Athletics
This week's athletes are doing more than doubling up on the base paths and the track. Sophomore Donovan Spearman won two events at the UMass invitation, leading the Big Green track team to a second-place finish. Junior Micah Schroder had two doubles at Yale to go along with a home run, six runs scored and seven runs batted in as the softball team won two-out-of-three games against Yale in Ivy action.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Donovan Spearman, So., Gardena, Calif., Sprints, Â Men's Track and Field
Â
The sophomore sprinter won two events at the UMass' Minutemen Invitational on Saturday, taking the top spot in the 100m (10.70) as well as the 200m (21.62). In both instances, Spearman was pushed by teammate Mattieu Freeman, who was second in each race. Thanks to the 20 points from Spearman, Dartmouth took second at the meet, despite only sending a contingent of sprinters and throwers to Amherst, while distance runners went to Princeton, making his performance all the more important. Prior to his individual races, Spearman was part of the Big Green's 4x100m relay team that took second.Â
Â
Micah Schroder, Jr., Houston, Texas., 2B, Softball
A Houston, Texas native, Schroder tore it up at the plate this past weekend down in New Haven, Connecticut,  hitting .883 (10-12) over the three-game span. At the end of two days her achievements included a home run, two doubles, seven runs batted in and six runs scored. The junior  also added a stolen base and had a perfect fielding percentage.
Â
Schroder started the series going  3-4 at the plate with an RBI single and three runs scored in Dartmouth's 10-2 game one victory over the Bulldogs. She then finished a perfect 4-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, including a two-run home run in the second inning in the Big Green's six inning, 11-3, win in game two. Schroder capped off the weekend with a 3-4 performance with three more RBI in game three.
